The dreamer is looking for the meaning of the dream because the frustrated feeling the dream left with her is lingering.

I hope you can help me with a recent dream I had.  I woke up feeling so frustrated and confused and the feeling is still with me over 24 hours later. I have the feeling that my mind is giving me a message of some sort but I can’t figure it out.  Here’s my dream. I was in a village in the middle of nowhere. The people didn’t talk at all. They didn’t even use sign language.  I tried to communicate with them but they just looked at me, then looked at each other like I was crazy and they were amused by me.  If they did make noise, I knew they would laugh at me.

Because no one would talk, I couldn’t figure out how to get out of the village and to the town.  See, I knew that I had to leave the village and, for some reason, it was the most important thing in the world to get back to town. Whatever town it was!

Each time I tried to take off for a certain direction, I found trouble or a dead end then had to go back to the village, where everyone was looking at me like I was a crazy woman. The people were Indians – all dressed up like you’d see in a Western movie. Feathers, tomahawks, etc. They were so beautiful, but I hated them because they wouldn’t talk or help me find where I needed to go.  I can’t describe how helpless and frustrated I was or how much I knew I needed to get to the town.  But each way I tried lead to mountains or lakes or fire or wolves. Nowhere I went was the right way!  I woke up completely frustrated and the feeling won’t go away.  Please help so I can have peace of mind. Thank you. – Brenda

Brenda, fascinating dream! I can feel your frustration in your words and can practically see it in your dream symbols.  The good news is that this dream’s meaning is pretty clear to me. The bad news is, you may have a little work in front of you for the peace of mind you’re looking for.

The first thing that came to my mind after reading your dream is this:  Somehow you have lost your way in life and are, subconsciously, trying to find it.  This doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve gotten WAY off track in some area.  It could be as simple as slacking off with a few goals or even New Year’s Resolutions.  Many people, after trying to battle some particular goal they’ve set for themselves (losing weight, saving money, controlling their temper, quitting smoking….) will fall off the wagon, so to speak.  They grow frustrated and even wonder if they can meet the goal – they often wonder if they should even try.

During this time, they can sort of lose their way.  Their purpose in life is clouded by the clouds of doubt and frustration.  This can quickly lead to great frustration.

Another instance of losing your way is if you allow other people to make choices for you.  If you keep allowing someone else to decide where you go to school, where you work, what you eat, who you spend time with, what you wear (or any combination of personal choices) – you’ll eventually feel trapped and wonder where that person ends and you begin.

If you recognize your personal situation in either of the descriptions above, I’m sure you realize how frustrated your subconscious mind is. YOU are inside trying to get out! Whether you are in your own way, circumstances are holding you back, or someone else is in your way can only be determined by you.

The bottom line is that you essentially feel that you have lost your way. You find yourself lost within a situation that your subconscious mind wants out of.  The way you longed for the “town” in the dream is symbolic for what you yearn for in your real life.  The best way to figure this out is to simply sit down with yourself and have a good old-fashioned self-talk! Free yourself from all distractions and really get in touch with the real you – beneath the layers of day-to-day stress, responsibilities, relationships, etc.  You will undoubtedly uncover what it is you feel is holding you back.  This thing (whether it’s a personal trait, situation, or individual) is symbolic of the obstacles you kept encountering.  You feel that, in life, something is in your way

The villagers represent helplessness.  In some area of your life you feel helpless – just as helpless as the people were when they either refused to help you or didn’t know how.

One final thought about the dream symbols. The fact that the people, themselves, weren’t aggressive and the fact that the obstacles you met were not human obstacles leads me to think that the obstacle you face in your day to day life is probably yourself and/or circumstances.  I believe that if your obstacle involved another human being, you would have encountered an angry or aggressive human in your dream.  By contrast, they were silent.  In society, we have often referred to people as dumb who refuse to speak.   I believe this is an important symbol in the dream and believe that you somehow feel “dumb” because of your situation.  Of course, that’s ridiculous because we all “lose our way” from time to time.

As for the dream staying with you, when this happens we can rest assured that our subconscious mind is deeply troubled and looking for answers.

I have complete confidence that you’ll get back on the right track right away. Keeping a Dream Journal is an excellent way to keep track of your dreams. They really help you sort things out.

Snake dreams continue to be the most popular type of dream here on Dream Prophesy.  The reason for this is pretty clear and totally understandable, however that’s of little comfort when someone has such an unsettling dream!

Snake dreams will usually subside once you realize that this fear, and possible isolation, exists.  A word of caution, however:  As with all unsettling dreams – try very hard not to dwell on them, especially right before going to sleep.  Doing so only invites the dream to RECUR, and when it comes to snake dreams, that’s the last thing any of us want.

Dream Meaning

A recently submitted dream:

Hi, I’m hoping you can settle a bet. My sister had a dream about going to an optometrist and getting new glasses. When she wore the glasses, she had the best luck ever. People saw her as beautiful, her boss gave her a new office, and her husband bought her a new car! When she took the glasses off, though, the dream turned dark and there were scary sounds. So she put the glasses back on really fast and things were light and sunny again.

I told her that the dream probably means she needs a change or something but my sister says she doesn’t think it means anything at all. Who is right? We have a lunch riding on it!  – a big sister in Detroit

Well, big sister, I hope it helps you get a free lunch, I can tell you that you are more right than your sister. The meaning of the dream actually goes a little deeper than her needing a change, though.

When we dream of glasses, optometrists, eye exams, contact lenses, and just about anything else related to the eyes, our subconscious mind is letting us know that we need to “open our eyes” and “see” something that we’re missing.  This thing, which is partially hidden to us is something we’re aware of but are trying to sort of sweep under the rug.

An example:  A mother of a 4 year old knows that she has to make him stop sucking his thumb.  She knows that kindergarten is around the corner and that the other kids could potentially make fun of him.  However…. he’s her baby!  So she tries not to think about the glaring truth.  In her sleep, her subconscious mind can finally get through to her without any protests – it has her where it wants her, quiet and unable to move away!  When she dreams of buying a new pair of glasses, the glasses are a dream symbol – symbolic of her SEEING what’s right in front of her.

I believe this dream scenario is the same with your sister’s dream.  The fact that everything is so fantastic in her dream when she has the glasses on would indicate that what she’s failing to “see” is extremely important – especially when you contrast the great feelings with the gloom and doom when she takes the glasses off!  In all  honesty, I believe that what she’s trying not to see may be of vital importance and should be dealt with as soon as possible.

It sounds like the issue is huge and her subconscious mind is well aware of the fact.

When your little sister is treating you to lunch (after all, you were on the right track!), you should absolutely, positively try to help her realize what she isn’t facing.  It could be as simple anything along these lines:

• Knowing that she needs to take better care of her health.
• Knowing that she needs to switch jobs.
• Knowing that she needs to give up smoking.
• Knowing that a friend isn’t good for her.
• Knowing that she isn’t pursuing a personal dream.
• … or just about anything!

The majority of dream interpretation requests I get have to do with 1 of the following types of dreams:

I thought we’d take a good look at one of these dreams today:  Dreams of losing things.  Many people want to know what it means to dream about losing things – some wonder if it’s a sign that they’ll be losing something (or someone) in their life.  First of all let me say a resounding NO, these dreams do not tell the future or imply that you’ll lose anything or anyone in your waking life.

Dreams deal with what’s going on in our lives – or with what has gone on in our lives.  Dreams are where we sort it all out.

When we dream of losing things, its almost always because we are (in our waking life) overwhelmed and are currently being pulled in too many different directions or are trying to do too many things.  These dreams often have to do with us, personally, more than things we lose.  They’re just symbols for the bigger picture.

It’s our brain’s way of telling us:  Too many pots on the stove!  Something’s going to happen if you don’t get it together. Dreaming of losing things often means we are “out of touch” or “out of control” in some area of our life.

Many times, life gets so hectic and twisted that we lose touch with who we actually are.  We try to be so many things to so many people that we sort of lose who we truly are.  We forget the things that truly matter (or at least should matter) in life.  At the risk of wading into the deep end of the pool, dreaming of losing things often reflects that we’ve “lost a part of ourselves.”

If you dream that you have lost something, examine your heart and life the very next day, while the dream is still fresh in your mind.  Have you lost touch with yourself lately?  Are you too busy?  Are parts of your life sort of spinning out of control?

Do dreams come true?

Are my dreams trying to tell me something?

Does dreaming of death mean that someone’s going to die?

If I dream of losing something, will the dream come true?

What is dream prophesy?!

All viable questions.  All questions dreamologists hear all day long – and dreamers wonder about each night.  The questions are confusing and can be hard to sort out, but the answer is pretty simple, actually…. once you understand the initial contradiction!

Dream Prophesy deals with the phenomenon of your dreams “playing out” or “coming true” in a way.  To be certain, sometimes they do!  President Abraham Lincoln dreamed of being assassinated.  Countless people have dreamed about fighting with a loved one, only to find themselves in the middle of an epic disagreement hours later.

I read (and experience first hand) accounts of fascinating situations of dreams seemingly coming true.  Although I KNOW that we control our own destiny, I also know that our dreams sometimes do come true – or at least come true in some fashion.  If I didn’t believe this, would I have named my dream website Dream Prophesy?

Doubtful.

So, you may wonder, why do I countlessly (on this very dream website!) teach and preach that dreams don’t tell the future? That dreams don’t control our destiny?

Here’s the truth… the whole truth…. and nothing but the truth. We DO control our future, our dreams DO NOT.  If we dream of losing something, we don’t necessarily have to lose our keys (or cellphone, papers, book…) on an  upcoming day.  If we dream of losing something, it’s because our mind is recognizing and warning us about something troublesome to it:  We’re overwhelmed and the stage is being set for something to happen – such as losing something.  When we dream about losing things, our mind is telling us to get our sh-- together!

If after having one of these dreams, we actually lose our car keys – we either didn’t heed the dreams warning or didn’t act upon it soon enough.

Here’s another scenario.  I had a dream interpretation request submitted through the contact form about a year ago.  The woman explained that she’d been dreaming that she kept fighting with her husband.  The most recent dream involved divorce and she was greatly troubled by how “real” the dream felt to her.

She wanted to know if this dream meant big trouble for her marriage.  I told her that it did if she didn’t try to fix what was obviously troubling her subconscious mind.  After a few e-mails back and forth, she let the cat out of the bag…. and it was a mother in law!

Seems that her mother in law was causing a few simple little spats between her and her husband.  Her resentment was building and building.  Her dreams were letting her know that she needed to confront these feelings.  Fortunately, she did just that by having a good, long talk with her husband (after baking him his favorite meal and even his favorite cookies…. I hear from such smart people.).

Future trouble was averted – and, as she put it, her husband told her that his mother was becoming a “thorn in” his side as well!

Now, if this dreamer had ignored her dreams – without trying to figure out the meaning behind them, she would not have made this meal, the cookies, or the first move.  She’d have kept going along, quietly, letting the resentment and anger build… until… you guessed it – a huge fight took place.

Then, to a bystander, it would have looked like the dreams came true – that the dreams were prophetic.  Not exactly. We are always in control.

Another scenario:  If a young boy dreams that he has a car wreck, it could be his mind “processing” all the warnings his parents (and possibly even his girlfriend) give him about his speeding.  His mind could be letting him know (while he’s asleep and less likely to protest the idea) that he needs to slow down. If he heeds this warning – the dream prophesy, if you will, and slows down, his risk of having a wreck will go down.

If he doesn’t heed the warning… well, speeding young boys often find themselves in fender benders!

Let’s go back to the White House with President Abraham Lincoln.  He had a famous dream where he was assassinated.  No duh? He was President during a time of total turmoil and upheaval.  He was a highly controversial man during that time.  We know him as nothing but a complete HERO, but some poor souls who didn’t know any better saw him as a villain.

He knew that.  He saw the looks on some haters’ faces, he read the papers, and he (no doubt) even had a few threats.  He knew the possibility and likelihood of being killed existed.  As someone who adores President Abraham Lincoln (I collect everything I can get my hands on related to him in any way) – I sometimes get lost in this thought:  What if he had “heeded” this dream and taken extra precaution.  What if, for the time being – while so many people were still so out of sorts – he’d laid low, upped his protection, etc?

I love to think about what other impacts this man would have had on history.

Sadly, his dream did prove to be prophetic and he was murdered by a cowardly moron.

As with our cookie baking wife, our speedster, and our heroic president – their dreams let them know one thing:  That the STAGE WAS SET for a particular thing to happen.

A few days ago, one of my daughters and I were talking about we’ll often solve a problem or get a great idea while we’re lying in bed – either close to sleep or having just woke up. I’ll often get a great idea for a post or the ingredients for a killer recipe when I’m either close to sleep or just coming out of its blissful state!

Researchers actually back up our experiences

Experts say that we have the ability to solve problems in our sleep because most memory consolidation occurs while your brain is in a resting state. Studies have even shown that students who review schoolwork right before bedtime have a much better chance of remembering the information for the next day’s test or assignment.

If you are preparing for a test or a presentation at work, and you want the information to be stored as long-term memory, your best bet is to study the material right before bedtime.

By the same token, if you have a certain dilemma in your life and you’re searching for a solution, give it a great deal of thought as you fall asleep. Your chances for waking up next to the solution are outstanding!

As a huge animal lover, I read a lot of books by Allen & Linda Anderson (we extreme animal lovers have to stick together, right?).  I was zipping along through their latest book, Angel Animals – Book of Inspiration when I came to a story that spoke to BOTH the dreamologist and the animal lover.

An iguana parent (Darry) from North Carolina was telling the story of their pet iguana, Bubbette.   When Bubbette was a baby, Darry had a very troubling dream one night. She dreamed that Bubbette got  into the garbage disposal and was killed.  The dream was so realistic and frightening that she literally woke up crying. Grisly

Several months passed and Darry was working in the kitchen one day, with Bubbette on her shoulder.  Darry cleared dishes, and generally took care of things that we all do after a meal – with Bubbette riding happily on her shoulder.

What happened next really makes the hair on your arms sit up:

I pushed scraps down the garbage disposal and switched it on.  When I turned around to pick up more dishes, I had a flashback of that dream.  Immediately, I spun back to the sink and flicked off the disposal – just in time.  Bubbette, for the first time ever, had taken a flying leap off my shoulder into the sink.  I caught her just as she was going down the disposal drain.

If I had not remembered that dream, Bubbette probably would have fallen into the garbage disposal before I could realize what was happening.  She was very small at the time, and would have slid easily into the hole and met an untimely demise.

Thank goodness the little cutie was spared by her mom’s dream!

I found something else fascinating about the dream.  This Iguana lover spends a great deal of time promoting the safety and care of Iguanas.  She belongs to a rescue group that discourages people from adopting iguanas until they’ve read “Iguanas for Dummies” (great, great advice, by the way – A LOT more goes into bringing an iguana into your family than you’d think).  This concern and compassion for this animal made its way into her dream, and saved her own little girl in the process!

This is just another clear example of why I tell people, “Never, ever ignore your dreams.”
