Meaning of Dreams: Dreaming of Bad Things Happening to Someone You Love
This is a common type of dream, but it’s one that few people really want to own up to.
Have you ever dreamed that something bad happened, or was about to happen to someone you love, as you watched? A recent reader recently sent me a dream to analyze that involved her watching as her husband was robbed by someone dressed as Richard Nixon.
How amazing is that?!
Anyway, she said that she watched as her husband handed over all of his money to “President Nixon.” She wanted to help her husband, especially since at one point it looked as though he was about to be hit on the head with a bat, but she was frozen in place.
When analyzing dreams, I often go with my initial gut reaction and this time I felt 110 percent confident with it. After complimenting her brain on its creativity (!!!), I e-mailed her back something along these lines:
While we often dream about something happening to our loved ones as a reaction to being worried about them (even more than usual) – we often dream these types of dreams when we’re upset with them – even incredibly angry at them! This dream would be that type of dream. The fact that the husband was the only one in any sort of danger indicates that he alone is on the recieving end of negative feelings. The good news is that since he wasn’t actually harmed, the feelings weren’t terribly bad!
Something else that’s interesting is the symbolism of money. The fact that the husband had to give all of his money away, while the wife retained her own purse and possessions indicates that the negative feelings spring from a financial disagreement, difference of opinion, or even resentment.
The only thing that mystified me was the Richard Nixon mask. I kept wondering why him? I went over a few things in my mind, such as what he represented:
- Trickiness (“Tricky Dicky”)?
- Dishonesty?
- History?
- Maligned?
I simply e-mailed her my thoughts, ignoring our ex-Presidentfor the time-being. I got an e-mail back within a few hours. It was filled with exclamation marks, because she thought I’d nailed it.
Apparently, her husband had recently spent a great deal of money on purchase that she felt was frivolous. She explained how they’d argued, how she had wanted a kitchen hutch, how he had stormed off to sit and sulk in McDonald’s for 3 hours (I love this guy! – I pointed out how lucky she was that he drowned his anger in milkshakes as opposed to something else!).
Then, she said the magic words that solved my Nixon mystery – she said that on the day he’d gotten his bonus check, he called and said he’d be home a few hours late, that he had to “pick something up.” She thought the something was the kitchen hutch she’d been eyeing for months. SO, when McDonald’s Mike (not his real name) showed up with a golfer’s dream set in the pick-up rather than a wife’s dream, she was floored. She said she met him outside and lit into him. She told him that it all felt like a “dirty trick” – aha! That’s where the Richard Nixon mask came in! Tricky Dicky strikes again.
It reminds me of the time my oldest two daughters had a HUGE fight when they were younger. The oldest one told me the following day that she’d had a dream that her younger sister was attacked and eaten by a crocodile. I asked, “Awww, are you upset by the dream?” (I was ready to reassure her that it was just a dream, and that nothing like that would ever happen.) My speech wasn’t necessary, though, because when asked if she was upset by the dream, she just said, “No, not really.” Then she smiled and went outside to ride her bike!

I had a dream that my ex and I were in my room looking at pictures together of him and I. Then i started crying and said this wouldn`t have happened if it wasn`t for you , you left me and now i`m all alont and I don`t have you. I had 4 really weird dreams last night.
i was in foster care my foster mom told me to throw away the trash so i got the trash and headed to the door, but when i opened the door all over the place was flooded i mean flooded but i didn’t care. it’s like i already knew it was flooded. so i went to my room to get my boots and coat but then suddenly a little girl was in my room. she had a snake in her neck. i started to scream but nothing came out. then the snake bite me. and thats all
i was running in the street and its raining i saw my love but now he is dead .. he was running with me suddenly i signed and i cant walk .. but my love took my hand and told me to run fast when we are finally finshed running but suddenly i fainted .. he took me to his bed room and put me in the bed and he fall asleep next to me.. in the morning when i woke up i saw him next to me and i smile. and thats all

i neva dream about snakes,

not even in real life. I come from New Zealand, and us and Ireland dnt have snakes which is good. But one time I had a dream that my dad commited suicide right infront of my eyes, he like jumped off the cliff, and I followed him, thinking I would catch him. But I didnt, and I somehow survived the fall, and was standing up but he was on the ground, DEAD. Than I woke up, and I was crying for ages until I clicked that it was just a dream. It happened a few years ago, when I was like 10, now im 14. But what was so weird, was that after that day when I had that dream, we found out that my dad had cheated on my mum.
my ex boyfriend had a dream that a car was trying to run him over but he kept moving out of the way, this happened a few mores times then he finaly got hit by it and went to the hospital. he found out that his heart beat goes slower and slower everyday and no one visited him at the hospital. Then I texted him saying i missed him and he said he loved me and then he died… Wierd.

I need your help, im having this dream over and over again.
I always start dreaming and the dream always starts differently, then it ALWAYS ends the same. It ends up when i see my close friend going to the toilet and I go after her to see what she’s doing. Then as I enter I call her name and she turns round to face me. On her face she has the biggest smile she ever had, and I start smiling to. Then she stares into my eyes and tells me, “look kim, what I’ve done”, still smiling she turns her hand and half of it is choped off. She was still smiling and i stared in horror then i turned i started crying and stormed off out of the toilet. … Tha’s the whole story.. its so weird
The thing is that when she raises her half left hand the end of her hands looks not choped like when u slice it with a knife or something it looks carved. Like the primitave people used to do to make a knife. The edges lookd carved off

I remember 4 dreams i had last night.
1) I was in a theater with my sister and (yes i know this is weird) miley cyrus. My sister was on right, and miley cyrus was on my left… watever miley cyrus said we just kept laughing and she said something really nasty about a bald man infront of us.
2) I was in a room with my dad and some boy, He was sitting down and i went and sat next to the boy really closely, and he leaned in to kiss me.
( but then i went straight to another dream)
3) i was with miley cyrus again, in a shop. And i told her about the boy and she said shes never kissed a boy and she cant kiss because she gets tense lips or something. And i said try and relax you lips then kiss the person.
4) i was with the boy again (i think he was my boyfriend by this point) and we were some sort of secret agents. And he was helping me with stuff like he’d hit everyone that was horrible to me and everything.
so yeah, this is a prettty weird dream but i usually remember all the dreams i have :L
Last Night I had the craziest dream ever. there were these scientist that had a space monster in a secret cave in the middle of a park. but they had to figure out a way to get rid of it so they planned for a meteor to hit that exact spot. when the meteor came and hit that spot it blew up and suddenly, it was like i was in that area before the meteor came. it was weird because i could see a chain of events happening that had some strange effect on the meteor but at the same time the people in the chain of events were going backwards or something. Some of the things in the chain of events involved an old farm truck almost hitting another car. At that same time I could see a person on a motorcycle taking a jump but while he was in the air, he turned young and the motor bike turned into a pedal bike. then when I saw the meteor come down again from a different angle, it was really a giant space crab thing and when it landed on the cave, it ate the first space monster which was a giant plant type thing. it was all really cool and i wasn’t really afraid of anything that was happening.
Well this might sound a lil crazy to most, well when i was 10 yearz old i had my first dream and it didnt really make any since. I see this guy laying in a car a “green mustang” and he just wrecked his car into a really big tree and when i look at him i cant see his face and he would be breathing really fast and then just stop. I would have this dream every time i would fall asleep and for 8 years i had this dream. I am now 18 I was on my way home in my green mustang and hit something in the middle of the road and two of my tires blow out, i then went flying into the ditch to find that i hit a really big tree, at impacted everything went white i couldnt really breath so i started to breath really fast thats the only way i could breath and it would get worse & worse to the point where i couldnt anymore at that point all i could hear was the sound of a “EKG” when the heart stops, then like always that same dream but only this time i saw the guys face “IT WAS ME” but behind the EKG sound i heard my sisters telling me “WE TOLD U” and right when i took that in i woke up to the EMS people over me saying “YOUR LUCKY TO BE WITH US”. Yes you guessed it i died in that car wreck and the EMS people were right i was lucky to be with them it only took them 2min. to bring me back but took them 15min. to get there. It’s been 7 months since it happend, im doing good as if nothing ever happend but i still cant get over what i could hear my sisters telling me “WE TOLD YOU”…

This is one of the weirdest dreams i have ever had. It alson is probably the scariest. One Night i walk down stairs of my house n in the kitchen entrance was my stepdad holding a bible or some type of book. I look around and everything looked as if it were darker n the time changed from now to 1870 or 1880′s . I looked around and saw to girls or woman in dresses n those weird hats they would have on back in the 1870 or 80′s. Then I look back at my stepdad and it looks as if he is preaching to us or me or idk. but next thing i notice is that i am on the counter crouched together n cant move ne thing.

i had a dream where i think i was looking thorough the eyes of a baby and and a woman. The woman was in a strange place where there was this psycho guy who beats up women and children till the’re bleading and almost half dead he forces the woman to do jobs for him and she always has to beg him and say please if she doesn’t want to be beaten,later on she then has a baby but that baby has some weird super powers, then theguy comes in and says thats his baby and takes her to a diffrent place, this is when i switch ,i am now the baby and i think am in a womb like place but in there i can see a heart and i grap it and i am pulled back up Suddenly i switch back to the woman and she says someting out of line to the guy he sends her to be killed but she escapes this but he sees her and trys to hang before as she is almost hanged she calls the baby to save her but the baby doesn’t answer her but another woman comes in she has a sword in her hand and she cuts the woman into pieces but at that time i don’t know whats happening but i’m watching this woman getting cut into pieces her body is then taken to the kitchen and the woman who cut her up is holding knives and saying how beautifull they are and the man comes in and says theres meat don’t waste it then i wake up
I had a dream that my dad called my mom unnattractive because of the way she dresses and her being overweight. I planned to buy my mom all new clothes but woke up before I had the chance. What does this mean.

last night i had a dream i was sittting on the commode in an old decrepite house stripping down to get in the shower i started to get in and as i closed the door i saw someone elses feet behind the shoer door i proceede to take my shower and win i got out he says “you cant beat me” next thing i no were sitting on the couch, still nude and he says it again and by this point it starts to make me mad so i try to hit him next thing i no im on the floor with him laying across my chest face up at the point i feel like im fighting for my life so i desperetely try to hit him n the face and i cant he just laughs and keeps saying “you cant beat me” and then i awoke
I had a dream that me and my boyfriend through a party at his house and this girl showed up that I really didn’t know. Then as soon as my boyfriend saw her he walked up to her and she kissed his neck. Obviously at this point I ran upstairs freaking out and crying. However my boyfriend didn’t follow me like he usually does so I got very mad and stormed back down stairs. When I saw my boyfriend I started freaking out and screaming at him and he told me to go find her because he didn’t do anything. So I confronted her and she had nothing to say and I just kept freaking out and I finally insulted her and left his house.
i Had w weird dream that me and two of my girl cousins were searching for alligators and we stop a a little spot where there is just one alligator alone. above the alligator is a broken weight bar. out of nowhere the bar turns into a long fluorescent light. my cousin walks to the pull area and i tell her to get ride of all the static electricity on her and to make sure that her shoes have rubber at the bottom. Just as shes walking to the pool i decide to break the fluorescent light and then there’s like a little explosion that makes my cousin have a seizure and fall into the pool. and my other cousin also drown but when i try to save here. i hear Like a movie type voice (Like a narrator) say”and that’s the last i ever saw of her”. i try to dive to save her but i came up with a hard had. and my dream ends….
I keep having this reoccuring dream that I’m running through the streets by where I live. Im running away and for some reason I’m balling my eyes out. Im wearing this big white flowy dress but right when I think I’ve ran just far enough everything stands still and I begin running in place. Im stuck…and I feel anxious to get out but I cant. Then everything narrows in on me and I wake up.

Ok well, im like only 14 and already, i met this guy that mad me happyer than I have ever been. When he went back to where he came from, ( he had come up to visit family thats how we met) I started to have weird dreams. One day a dream would end happy and we would be back at the park throwing food at eachother, while the newest one would have me running after him and telling him to stop because he was gonna get hit. well i guess my weirdest dream was when i am apparently going upstairs in this mall or something, but i thought it was a better idea if i take a shortcut up this GIANT ladder.. when i get right near the top, the ladder starts to tip backwards, and i start to fall towards the ground.. i used to wake up every time this happened, but one time i decided to see what would happen if i ” rode” the ladder all the way to the ground.. just as im about to hit the ground EVERY time, it cuts to black, and i get the feeling inside me that i hit the ground.. but i never actually did.. and then i wake up and my bed is wet.. We were in a hotel. My husband my self, his sister and her husband. I was in the lobby with his sister, she said i had a visitor, i looked down the hall way and it was his other sister. I had a dream about this guy I’m seeing. He lives in a different province. My dream went like this I went out to visit for a weekend with 2 gfs one of which ended up staying with me and him so as the weekend went on he started buying my friend things like a cell phone. Before we were gonna leave he told me he wanted to end things with me and him and be with her. I was floored I asked my friend if she wanted to be with him and she said yes. I started packing up all my stuff to head home while I was the guy started trying to comfort me. I ended up asking my friend to not date him if she wanted to be friends with me still she ended up ending it on our way home. Then I woke up.
Please help me find a meaning.
I think that dreams in general can be interpreted. However I also believe that not all meanings are the same for all people.
For example; about two months ago I had a dream that my mom had died and I was at the funeral. The dream was at great length and played out like a realistic color movie of a life event that had not happened yet. Most people who would have this type of dream may wake up scared, crying or in panic and call their moms asking question after question about her health, if she’d seen a doctor lately, etc.
I did call my mom; however, I asked her who in our family was pregnant. She said no-one that she knew of. Then I specifically asked about a nephew’s wife and she said she would call and ask. Turned out she wasn’t pregnant. So, after a week or so I gave up thinking that if someone had just gotten pregnant they may not know for some time. Sure enough, about a week ago I received a call from my nephew, his wife, was about one and a half months pregnant.
Not all dreams give you feelings, but some do. I think that it is a lost art to use our “gut” instincts. The more of a dream that you can write down as soon as you wake up, the stronger the “gut” feeling as to the meaning of your dream will come to realization. If you are still puzzled then maybe someone can help you out.

Once i was sleeping and had a dream where i was not normal i had abilities (powers).
i was in an unknown place everything was metal
i then found myslef straped to a bed so i tryed forcing my way off i struggled so much that the straps started to disintegrate and i became free from the straps, i then got up from the bed and couldn’t feel my legs, but then soon restord feeling in both legs.
i started to walk very slow, and somehow found myslef looking at a big black door, the door had a brass door handle which when i toched felt almost real as it was very cold.
So i pushed the door and forced my way in, there were book shelfs and thats all there seem to be but they were not any kind of books on the shelfs they were metal books.
So i placed my hand on one of the books and dragged it off the self it was soo heavy i had to place it on the floor so i opened the book and there was a picture of a boy it said
his name
his place of birth
his age
and his secret number.
an allarm started to go off on this book and i herd people coming so i dopped the book and it turns out there were not people they weresomthing called syloes, they where allians but they where metal allians.
a new kind.
i ran and didn’t stop running for about 30 mins, and i stopped and infront of me was a boy, he was beautiful Black hair very pale skin. and dark eyes.
i had never seen this boy in my life not in the dream or real life.
well anyway, the syloes had found him trying to ecape so they beat him, they didn’t kill him because they need his poewers they needed all of our powers they just torched him for a while….~so then i helped him.
(still the dream )
the weird part of it is that at the en of my dream it turns out i wake up and i’m in a coma and i look to the right of me and see the boy next to me in the next bed in a coma too.
Alot more happend i n my dream but i can’t tell you all of it. i would be here all day..
the part that freaked me out the most was that the following week i wen’t to see my mums step sister in the hospital, and there was the boy i had never seen him before my dream he looked just like him…
and i was soo scared, and i asked my mums step sister who he was and she said she had no idea, he was in a coma,
ya see my mums sister had just come out of a coma thats why they were on the same word. …
but i never know hoe that could of happend soo its all a mystary..

I was sitting with my mom when i told her about a dream i had had. The core of the earth was going to send a ray to the sun. the sun would explode. I had to swim through water and dig through the ground so that i could put a liquid in it to stop it. i got there to late and i woke up.

First im in the hospital and the sirens go off and the hospital starts to decay and i run out of the bathroom screaming and then iron head comes after me i run and run but he allways seems to cacth up with me. i had a dream about jesus and me and a girl i didnt reconize. the girl and i was opponents to see who would get to heaven first and there was a rope that would determin which one of us would go to heaven well we fell from the clouds and bounced back up and then what ever 1 of us held on to the rope first they got to go to heaven and the other went to hell well jesus was sitting some where, and we did it 2 more times and 1time i won and the other the other girl won and that was it.

I was at church and mom called and told me she had gotten beaten, though i was a great christian i started cussing out whoever it was even though i didn’t know them. when i got home no one was home, i went and cussed out all the neighbors(they were in their houses, i was just yelling at their houses) then for some reason I was on the phone with my mom when the guy that hit her drove up in a blue van, she said, “THATS HIM!” and he pulled up in our yard right next to the door. A few nights ago I had a dream that someone killed my boyfriend in a car accident. I was in someone’s apartment (I have never seen this apartment ever in real life) which was dimly lit and gave that dark/depressing vibe. My boyfriend’s body was there…hanging from a noose all bloody and he was not wearing any clothes. Two friends were in the apartment with me and wanted to see the body so I went with them. They looked quickly and went into a different room. Then I saw my boyfriend moving and talking to me. Even though he was dead in dream, it was his presence or spirit that made his body move and talk to me. I asked if he was happy and he replied yes. I asked if he was happier than when he was with me and he replied with “Yeah it’s nice here; my bed lays out.” He then told me he had to go, kissed me on the cheek and the body was limp again. I walked to the room where my friends were and told them how my boyfriend was talking to me. They said they heard me talking but nobody talking back. I’m not really sure what happened next but all I know is I woke up crying. This is not a dream I would like to experience again but I would like to know…what does it mean?
