Dream Recall
Some dreams are easy to remember. Especially the far-out, wacky variety. Other dreams are more difficult to recall. A lot has to do with when the dream occurs and whether or not you jump right out of bed and rush into the day.
In the pursuit of dream study and analogy, the number one goal is clearly good dream recall. You just can't proceed to the subsequent steps until you are able to vividly recall your dreams.
The following tips, along with patience, will help you. Soon you'll be rattling off your dreams with amazing accuracy.
- Throughout the day, tell yourself that you will remember the dreams you encounter that evening. Repeat this several times in the morning, several in the afternoon, and several times right before bedtime. This positive reinforcement will achieve more success than any of the following tips.
- Avoid alcohol. This drug is believed to suppress REM sleep, the birthplace of wonderful dreams!
- Get into the habit of lying still for a few minutes when you first wake up. Lie still and focus on your dream(s). Try to remember who and what was in your dream. Where were you? What colors were prominent? How did you feel? All of these are things you'll need to know for accurate dream analogies.
- Keep a dream journal. Get into the habit of writing your dreams down as soon as you possibly can upon waking. We recommend sitting down in a quiet spot with a cup of coffee, a pen, and your dream journal. Whether you recall enough of your dream to fill up three pages, or you only remember enough to write three words - write it down.
Always keep your dream journal in the same place, along with a pen or pencil. You don't want to have to go on a search first thing in the morning.
Begin using these tips today and within a week your dream recall skills will vastly improve. Good luck and have fun!
