What Does it Mean to Dream About Dolls?

Dreaming about dolls, in one way or another, symbolizes childhood. It could either be symbolic of the dreamer’s childhood or could symbolize a child (or “wanted” child) in the dreamer’s life. Many couples who are trying to have babies often dream about dolls.  These dreams are simply the mind’s ways of handling the intense desire to have children.

Many people will dream about dolls when they have been thinking and/or talking about their childhood.  The mind sort of goes back in time to “revisit” the magical time of childhood.

Dreaming of dolls can also symbolize children in your life -either your own children or other’s.  If the doll is broken or lost, the dreamer is most likely quite worried about a particular child. If the doll is in perfect condition and (in the dream) brings about positive feelings, it’s simply the mind’s way of expressing love for a particular child (or children).

If – somehow – the doll is associated with negative feelings in the dream, the meaning could be altogether different.  Many people will have negative dreams about dolls… even nightmares… when they have negative events in their daily life.  Due to the fact that there is a doll present in the dream, these negative events either involve a child OR childishness.

Adults who are either dating or have married an individual with a child or children from another relationship sometimes feel jealous or “left out.”  These unfortunate feelings can carry over into dreams and, quite often, star dolls or toys.

In yet another example of doll dreams, we often symbolize someone’s actions (or even our own!) through symbolism in our dreams. If we think someone is acting childish, we’ll find child-like symbols in our dreams – such as dolls.  Even if we’re the one who has been acting childish!

Finally, I remember one particular dream where a woman dreamed that she had a doll that looked JUST like her.  It turned out that she felt like her husband and children never listened to her.  She felt as appreciated and acknowledged as a doll, basically – hence the dream.

What Do Knife Dreams Mean?

I have gotten a lot of e-mails lately about knife dreams.  It’s perfectly understandable why these dreams unsettle the dreamer.  Many times the dreamer dreams of cutting themself – or, worse, they dream of cutting other people.

Knife dreams leave the dreamer wondering if they’re harboring rage, aggression, or anger.

I’m always happy to assure them that this isn’t the case.  You see, knife dreams are what we call SYMBOLIC dreams.  In dreams, knives are dream symbols for one or more of the following:

  • Wanting to remove something from your life
  • Wanting to remove something from someone else’s life
  • Wanting to give up a habit
  • Wanting someone else to give up a habit
  • Wanting to get someone out of your llife
  • Wanting to get someone out of someone else’s life

Knife dreams simply mean you want something or someone gone…. like yesterday!

Ironically, they do not imply that you are angry or aggressive – rather they imply that you allow things to go on around you without saying as much as you’d like to say.  Very often, the most laid back, easy-going people in the world will dream about knives.  I suppose it’s symbolic of wanting to “cut” things out the easy way!

Dream Analysis: A Plate Upside the Head Doesn’t Spell Future Headaches

I dreamed about 4 nights ago that my husband and I were fighting so bad that I hit him in the head with a plate. We were yelling and yelling and he was so unreasonable and was saying such mean things that I felt like I had to just shut him up. I am not a violent person and actually don’t even fight with people that much. I argue with my husband sometimes but all marriages have that. But I never hit him with plates. Why would I be so violent in my dream? It is really troubling me. I can’t get the image of the plate and his cut head bleeding so much blood out of my mind. It makes me sick and I don’t know what to do. Is it a bad omen for something happening to one of us or to a big fight. As you can see I am really a wreck over this. Please help me.

First of all, rest assured that there is no omen involved. People often think that, but dreams can’t tell the future. They do, however, often indicate something that is currently going on or something that has gone on. A dream such as this one indicates that there is something “below the surface.” More times than not, if we dream about an open wound (or surgery, pulling teeth… that sort of thing) – our mind is trying to “dig” beneath the surface for something.

In this case, I would be willing to bet that you have been trying to get something across to your husband for a while – something that he either isn’t accepting or simply isn’t “catching.” It could be hints you’ve been dropping for a new sofa, something around the house that you want him to take care of, or something on a grander scale. It could even be a case of wanting him to listen to you or pay more attention to you.

The hit in the head with the plate was pretty much your subconscious mind’s way of saying, “Now I’ve got your attention!!!”

As far as dream symbolisms go, I think that the fact that “so much blood” came out of the wound indicates that you fully expect to be able to get through to him – in your heart you believe that you’ll get to the source of the problem. If, in your dream, you had hit him on the head and nothing had come out, I’d worry that you might be fighting a losing battle and that (down inside) you knew it.

Think about how this relates to your situation. I’d be willing to bet that a light bulb has already appeared!

Again, this is absolutely not an omen for anything. If, by coincidence, he cuts himself shaving or you have an argument about what movie to see Friday night – know this: The dream did not predict or cause either one. Dreams rely on what happened yesterday, not tomorrow.

Sweet dreams!

What Does My Dream Mean: A Knife Dream That Seemed Prophetic

Here’s a recently submitted dream that’s, well, more than just a little creepy:

I dreamed…

My fiancé and I had become vampires. I was really happy about this and wanted nothing more. We wanted to purchase a motorcycle to go to bike week. I said we should shop for a nice new outfit for me first. We went to some clothing shops in a country downtown atmosphere.

I started worrying that maybe I was not really a vampire, maybe I could get hurt. I decided to cut my hand to see if it would heal quickly. As I looked at the wound I had given myself a flash of a dog with a stab wound to the eye came into my vision. The vision came and went very fast. I then saw my hand heal and felt excited again about being a vampire but confused about the vision.

I am a fan of twilight so I can understand why I would have a dream like this. My problem with it is what happened a few days after my dream.

I work at an animal shelter. At work a dog came in that had been stabbed in the stomach and in the eye. The knife was still lodged in the dogs’ eye. This was done by a cop in “self defense”. The dog had to be euthanized. After the dog was dead the knife was removed and it was the same image I had seen in my dream..

It was a traumatizing event for me to witness and the fact that I had a vision of it in a dream is making me crazy wondering how or why.

First of all, the vampire theme: I’ve gotten many (make that many, many, many) dreams over the past few years about vampire dreams. When I double-checked for a pattern, I found what I suspected – they mainly occurred around the release of Twilight and New Moon! Not surprisingly, people who are romantics at heart see this as something too delicious not to partake of in their dreams.

Some people are wondering if dreaming of vampires means they are looking for or craving excitement. It’s actually, in most circumstances, more on a romantic path than anything else…. especially since, as you said, you are a Twilight fan (me too by the way!).

Second of all, dreaming of a knife in any way is a symbol that there’s something in your life that you’d like to remove. Knife dreams indicate that the dreamer has something they want to get out of their life – or cut out of themselves (such as bashfulness, bitterness, a weight problem… even a bad memory). The dog in the dream is very much expected, given your work. He would seem to indicate that what you want to remove from your life is at least partly connected to your job.

As for the hideous incident with the dog, it truly was a most unfortunate coincidence. I can see how the vision would be troubling and difficult to get out of your mind. It will take time, but eventually your mind will be filled with adorable cats, dogs, and other patients who meet with much, much happier endings.

I hope your dreams and your thoughts are much sweeter very, very soon!

Dreaming of A Mother Who Has Passed Away

Below is a dream that was recently left on the blog to be analyzed and interpreted. I felt many others could benefit from the dream, so I’m sharing it below.

Hello my name is Delandra and I am 25 Years old I recently lost my mother and I am now beginning to have dreams of her dieing again .Some of the things in my dream are kinda weird. There is one dream that I had where I was fussing wit my uncle about something and he follows me into the house and I end up underneath him and he place a gun in my chest and begins to pull the trigger but while i’m screaming for help the bullets are just blanks and then i’m where someone gets a phone call from my grandmother telling them that my mother is dead and i begin to scream and cry and I wake u wit tears in my eyes as if i am crying but i really was crying. Can u explain this to me please?

First of all, I’m terribly, terribly sorry about your mother. 25 is unbelievably young to lose a parent. I’m profoundly sorry and hope you have a good number of people around you to help with the months and even years ahead. As someone who has walked the dark road you’re now facing, I can tell you that you have to take your time and heal – give yourself patience and time.  You can’t lose someone you had your whole life and not feel the loss for a very, very long time.

During such a horrible lose, our brains (understandably) have a  difficult time processing and making sense out of what has happened. How do you make peace with something so outrageously unfair and heartbreaking?  During the day, while we’re in the grieving process, we often “busy” our minds.  It’s a coping strategy and one that everyone recommends…. “Keep busy” – how many times do we hear that?

We do the best we can to keep our mind occupied while we’re awake, but when we’re asleep, the mind tries to make sense of the loss the best it can.  It’s extremely common to dream about people we have lost, especially in the first weeks and months after the loss.  When the loss hits particularly close to home, we often think about our own death.  This explains your dream.  While your mind is trying to wrap itself around your horrible loss, it’s also sorting out fears you may have about your own mortality.

Take very good care of yourself during the coming months and get plenty of rest.  Your dreams will be a better place to be very soon.  Again, I’m very sorry for your loss.

A frequent dream analysis request on Dream Prophesy goes something like this:  “What does it mean to dream about an ex?  Does it mean I want them back?!“  Most people seem astonished to dream of their ex because, in their conscious state, the last thing they’d want is to have the ex back!

More times than not, when you dream about an ex (girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife), it isn’t really THEM that your dream represents.  Usually (though not always, of course) it’s the period of time that your mind is revisiting – your ex just happens to be there.  In the same way that our AWAKE mind revisits the past, through memories, sometimes our ASLEEP mind does the same.

If we’re going through a stressful time in our lives and seem to have more on our proverbial plate than we ever asked for – our mind will take us to a “simpler time” – if an ex happens to be there, it isn’t necessarily a compliment to them.  They just happened to be in the picture at the time.

However, if it becomes a recurring dream, the analysis may be a little different.  Here’s an example:

Trudie was married to a man named Carl, a wonderful man who she was crazy about.  His only vice, her e-mail said, was that he was a workahaulic.  He worked 12 hours a day and, when he came home, all he wanted to talk or think about was work.  Other than that, they were happily married and had a comfortable life.

However, she began to dream about her ex-husband regularly.  In her dreams, they were always having fun – doing things they used to do together (fishing, hiking, going to movies…).  She was beginning to think that her subconcious mind wanted Mr. Wrong back instead of Mr. Right!

She was reliveved to find out that her subconcious mind was simply giving her a message – she missed doing the things she once did and a part of her wished that her second husband had as much fun with life as her first one did.  After all, she said, it was the only thing he ever got right!

Without mentioning the dreams or husband #1′s name (of course), Trudie told Carl that he needed to lighten up and enjoy life more.  The whole business of work-related subjects being the only words out of his mouth had gotten very old, very fast.  She made arrangements for them to go fishing one weekend and Carl fell in love with it so much, she now kind of wishes he’d give her a Saturday OFF the lake!

Examine your dreams and see if there’s a hidden message, such as the one above.  9 times out of 10 there isn’t a specific message – your subconscious simply wanted to take a stroll down memory’s lane… and you-know-who just happened to be there!

What does it mean to dream about ex-lovers?

When You Dream of Bad Things Happening to Someone You Love

Richard Nixon mask

Although this is a common type of dream,  it’s one that few people really want to think about – let alone try to find the dream interpretation!

Have you ever dreamed that something bad happened, or was about to happen to someone you love, as you watched?  A recent reader recently sent me a dream to analyze that involved her watching as her husband was robbed by someone dressed as Richard Nixon.

How amazing is that?!

Anyway, she said that she watched as her husband handed over all of his money to “President Nixon.”  She wanted to help her husband, especially since at one point it looked as though he was about to be hit on the head with a bat, but she was frozen in place.

When analyzing dreams,  I often go with my initial gut reaction and this time I felt 110 percent confident with it.  After complimenting her brain on its creativity (!!!), I e-mailed her back something along these lines:

While we often dream about something happening to our loved ones as a reaction to being worried about them (even more than usual) – we often dream these types of dreams when we’re upset with them – even incredibly angry at them!  This dream would be that type of dream.  The fact that the husband was the only one in any sort of danger indicates that he alone is on the recieving end of negative feelings.  The good news is that since he wasn’t actually harmed, the feelings weren’t terribly bad!

Something else that’s interesting is the symbolism of money.  The fact that the husband had to give all of his money away, while the wife retained her own purse and possessions indicates that the negative feelings spring from a financial disagreement, difference of opinion, or even resentment.

The only thing that mystified me was the Richard Nixon mask.  I kept wondering why him?  I went over a few things in my mind, such as what he represented:

  1. Trickiness (“Tricky Dicky”)?
  2. Dishonesty?
  3. History?
  4. Maligned?

I simply e-mailed her my thoughts, ignoring our ex-Presidentfor the time-being.  I got an e-mail back within a few hours. It was filled with exclamation marks, because she thought I’d nailed it.
Apparently, her husband had recently spent a great deal of money on purchase that she felt was frivolous. She explained how they’d argued, how she had wanted a kitchen hutch, how he had stormed off to sit and sulk in McDonald’s for 3 hours (I love this guy! – I pointed out how lucky she was that he drowned his anger in milkshakes as opposed to something else!).
Then, she said the magic words that solved my Nixon mystery – she said that on the day he’d gotten his bonus check, he called and said he’d be home a few hours late, that he had to “pick something up.” She thought the something was the kitchen hutch she’d been eyeing for months.  SO, when McDonald’s Mike (not his real name) showed up with a golfer’s dream set in the pick-up rather than a wife’s dream, she was floored.  She said she met him outside and lit into him.  She told him that it all felt like a “dirty trick” – aha!   That’s where the Richard Nixon mask came in!  Tricky Dicky strikes again.

It reminds me of the time my oldest two daughters had a HUGE fight when they were younger.  The oldest one told me the following day that she’d had a dream that her younger sister was attacked and eaten by a crocodile.  I asked, “Awww, are you upset by the dream?” (I was ready to reassure her that it was just a dream, and that nothing like that would ever happen.) My speech wasn’t necessary, though, because when asked if she was upset by the dream, she just said, “No, not really.”  Then she smiled and went outside to ride her bike!

Dream Analysis: Dreams About Losing Things

Timer

I’ve been having dreams lately about losing things.  In my dreams, I lose my keys, my truck, my belt.  In one dream, I lost my German Shepherd.  I don’t really have a problem with losing things in my real life.  Certainly not my dog and truck.  What do these dreams mean?  There have been about 8 of them and I always wake up feeling frustrated and annoyed.

Dreaming of losing things is often a signal that there are just too many things going on in your life.  When you’re being pulled in a great number of directions and/or you have a number of people counting on you, sometimes you feel like you’re losing control.

For example, I once heard from a man who had similar dreams.  Turns out he was working a full time job and raising two sons by himself.  Teenagers, at that.  He said that he’d recently been given more responsibilities at work as well.  When his dreams caused him to step back and realize that he was losing touch with what mattered most, he cut back on the overtime he was getting and boldly went to his boss to explain the situation.  When he pointed out that he felt his sons needed him more at home, he says his boss was actually very impressed and helped him out a great deal.

Without taking away his recent pay raise!  Cool bosses are so rare.

Take a good look at the way you described the feeling you got from the dreams:  Frustrated and annoyed. We can learn so much about our lives and mindsets from simply looking at the feelings our dreams give us.  You have undealt with frustrations in your life and I’d almost be willing to bet they stem from not having enough time to do everything you want to do.

Take steps to slow your life down and I promise you the dreams will leave as quickly as they came.

Good luck!

Dreams of Being Lost – What Do These Dreams Mean?

Dreams of being lost!

A Recently Submitted Dream for Analysis:

I always dream about not being able to find my way somewhere, or not being able to find something that I knew was there before. I either can’t find my way home, or can’t find my way out of a house, or can’t find the proper road, etc. Last night’s dream – I put my bag in a post office box (that was on the outside of the post office for some reason), and then when I went to find it, I couldn’t. I went up and down streets looking for the box I put my bag in, but couldn’t find it. One other time, I was trying to find my way home and kept walking on different roads that kind of looked familiar, but were not the roads I needed to get home. One other was I was in a house with many rooms, and could not find my way out of it. All my dreams are like this, and I wake up before I find my way. What does this type of dream mean?

Fascinatingly enough, your dreams are actually covering several areas.  They’re taking you by the hand and pulling you in several directions.  It’s a wonder you aren’t completely frazzled!

Dreams of Being Lost

The key symbolism for dreams in which we lose our way (or can’t find it in the first place) is frustration.  It’s a pretty common dream theme, simply because all of us are familiar with being frustrated. Whether it’s in school, at home, at work, or in a relationship – we all know the feeling of wanting something to go THIS way as we sit and watch it defiantly go THAT way instead!

Many Christians will experience dreams such as this when they feel that they’re “losing their way,” or that they aren’t reading their Bible often enough, praying enough, etc.  I interpreted a dream for a lady, once,  who had gone to her Catholic church for over 20 years.  An injury at work left her unable to leave her house for a couple of months.  She had dreams just about every night of losing either her teeth, her hair, her clothes, etc.  Her church was such a huge part of her life that she felt like she was actually “losing herself.”    I suggested that she call up members of her church and invite them over for coffee.  When they found out how much she missed them, a few ladies began automatically coming by after each service – bringing her cookies, drinking coffee with her, and telling her what had gone on at the service.  Is that sweet or what?!   The dreams ended because she didn’t feel the loss so  much any longer.

Dreams of Losing Objects

When we dream of losing something, it’s an indication that we feel we have, indeed, lost something.  Parents who have young children suddenly enrolled in school (whether it’s first grade or college) will have frequent dreams like this because they subconsciously feel that they’ve lost something. Soon, however, they realize they haven’t lost the child at all and the dreams fade away.

On an even deeper level, many people who have made compromises in relationships (personal or professional) will have these dreams because they feel that they’ve lost a piece of themself.

I’d say that your dreams are definitely trying to tell you something.  Any time dreams recur like this, there’s an underlying issue or emotion.  I like to think of these hidden emotions as unopened e-mail.   You know when you log in to your e-mail, it’ll tell you when you have unopened mail?  Recurring dreams serve the same basic function – alerting us that we have undealt with emotions.

When we click on the unopened mail, the message goes away.  We’ve dealt with it and there’s no need for it to bring anything to our attention any longer.

Think of your dreams along these lines.  Spend a little time with yourself (no distractions) and ask yourself what losses you feel – whether they are literal, physical losses or emotional.   More likely than not, you’ll get in touch with feelings you didn’t even fully realize you were having.

Good luck and sweet dreams!

Scratches in the Dream and Scratches in the Morning

Dream Prophesy

A Troubling Dream From a Reader:

I sit up out of the bed with a strange feeling. I look at the clock and its 3:10 still early in the morning. My throat is dry so i get some ice like i always do and try to turn on the kitchen light, but it doesn’t turn on. My mind makes me turn to the door as i feel something there. I see a shadow with a short height as i peer at the dark blue curtains. I walked over to the curtains and opened them up to see my son of 6 years standing outside with a blank expression on his face. I opened the door in a rush and asked him why he was outside at 3 in the morning. He didn’t answer me. When I went to reach for him something gave me a small cut on my hand. I thought nothing of it as I brought him inside. I took off his brown coat and something swiped across my hand again. when I looked at his hand he held up a gold screw about the size of my pinky and I could see the extra sharp point on it. I watched him take his hand across his chest and felt the point swipe across me again. I jumped up out of my bed to notice everything was like my dream. My house was dark, it was 3:10, the only difference was that my light turned on in the kitchen, and my son was peacefully sleeping on the couch. My body was cold and tingling and on my hand were 3 small cuts. They weren’t random as they are above each other…my hand was really scratched..maybe you could help me and tell me what this means or what’s happening to me. I remember dreams often some more than others and I have some dreams repeatedly altho this is the first time I ever had this….thank you.

It’s really a wonder that this sort of thing doesn’t happen more often. While we’re asleep, sometimes we’ll scratch ourselves, get our limbs twisted around, or just find ourselves in some sort of uncomfortable position – then, our mind will work this into our dream. Some people dream that their finger is bitten by an animal only to wake up with their finger in their own mouth!

More likely than not, you somehow managed to scratch yourself while sleeping (it’d be much easier to explain if you had a pet!) – then your mind sort of inserted the experience into your dream.

Many times when we dream of a loved one in this sort of dream, it’s an indication that we were thinking about them right before we drifted off to sleep. I guess that’s why parents so frequently dream of their children.  The dream also seems to indicate that you’ve been somewhat worried about “getting through” to someone recently.  This person could or could not be your son.

It appears that you know what is best for someone else but are having a little trouble helping them to see.  It could be something like trying to convince a friend that she’s wrong about a certain guy or it could be a case of trying to get your son to pick up his toys – it honestly could be just about anything.  However, the intensity of the dream suggests that it’s something you feel very strongly about and that has been worrying you more than you really realize.

As for the clock reading the same time, that can be chalked up to crazy luck.  The fact that you were cold and tingly can be attributed to the fact that you are a mother who was dreaming about her young child.  Lots of emotions are involved there, and your body registered each one.  Also, the fact that this dream seems very much like a lucid dream would explain its extreme effects on you.

Thanks for sharing your dream and I hope your scratches heal soon.
