If your dream involved chaos and confusion, your subconscious mind is most definitely trying to tell you something! Below is a recent dream submitted to Dream Prophesy for dream interpretation. The dreamer is looking for the meaning of the dream because the frustrated feeling the dream left with her is lingering.

I hope you can help me with a recent dream I had. I woke up feeling so frustrated and confused and the feeling is still with me over 24 hours later. I have the feeling that my mind is giving me a message of some sort but I can’t figure it out. Here’s my dream. I was in a village in the middle of nowhere. The people didn’t talk at all. They didn’t even use sign language. I tried to communicate with them but they just looked at me, then looked at each other like I was crazy and they were amused by me. If they did make noise, I knew they would laugh at me.

Because no one would talk, I couldn’t figure out how to get out of the village and to the town. See, I knew that I had to leave the village and, for some reason, it was the most important thing in the world to get back to town. Whatever town it was!

Each time I tried to take off for a certain direction, I found trouble or a dead end then had to go back to the village, where everyone was looking at me like I was a crazy woman. The people were Indians – all dressed up like you’d see in a Western movie. Feathers, tomahawks, etc. They were so beautiful, but I hated them because they wouldn’t talk or help me find where I needed to go. I can’t describe how helpless and frustrated I was or how much I knew I needed to get to the town. But each way I tried lead to mountains or lakes or fire or wolves. Nowhere I went was the right way! I woke up completely frustrated and the feeling won’t go away. Please help so I can have peace of mind. Thank you. – Brenda

Brenda, fascinating dream! I can feel your frustration in your words and can practically see it in your dream symbols. The good news is that this dream’s meaning is pretty clear to me. The bad news is, you may have a little work in front of you for the peace of mind you’re looking for.

The first thing that came to my mind after reading your dream is this: Somehow you have lost your way in life and are, subconsciously, trying to find it. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve gotten WAY off track in some area. It could be as simple as slacking off with a few goals or even New Year’s Resolutions. Many people, after trying to battle some particular goal they’ve set for themselves (losing weight, saving money, controlling their temper, quitting smoking….) will fall off the wagon, so to speak. They grow frustrated and even wonder if they can meet the goal – they often wonder if they should even try.

During this time, they can sort of lose their way. Their purpose in life is clouded by the clouds of doubt and frustration. This can quickly lead to great frustration.

Another instance of losing your way is if you allow other people to make choices for you. If you keep allowing someone else to decide where you go to school, where you work, what you eat, who you spend time with, what you wear (or any combination of personal choices) – you’ll eventually feel trapped and wonder where that person ends and you begin.

If you recognize your personal situation in either of the descriptions above, I’m sure you realize how frustrated your subconscious mind is. YOU are inside trying to get out! Whether you are in your own way, circumstances are holding you back, or someone else is in your way can only be determined by you.

The bottom line is that you essentially feel that you have lost your way. You find yourself lost within a situation that your subconscious mind wants out of. The way you longed for the “town” in the dream is symbolic for what you yearn for in your real life. The best way to figure this out is to simply sit down with yourself and have a good old-fashioned self-talk! Free yourself from all distractions and really get in touch with the real you – beneath the layers of day-to-day stress, responsibilities, relationships, etc. You will undoubtedly uncover what it is you feel is holding you back. This thing (whether it’s a personal trait, situation, or individual) is symbolic of the obstacles you kept encountering. You feel that, in life, something is in your way

The villagers represent helplessness. In some area of your life you feel helpless – just as helpless as the people were when they either refused to help you or didn’t know how.

One final thought about the dream symbols. The fact that the people, themselves, weren’t aggressive and the fact that the obstacles you met were not human obstacles leads me to think that the obstacle you face in your day to day life is probably yourself and/or circumstances. I believe that if your obstacle involved another human being, you would have encountered an angry or aggressive human in your dream. By contrast, they were silent. In society, we have often referred to people as dumb who refuse to speak. I believe this is an important symbol in the dream and believe that you somehow feel “dumb” because of your situation. Of course, that’s ridiculous because we all “lose our way” from time to time.

As for the dream staying with you, when this happens we can rest assured that our subconscious mind is deeply troubled and looking for answers.

I have complete confidence that you’ll get back on the right track right away. Keeping a Dream Journal is an excellent way to keep track of your dreams. They really help you sort things out.

Best of luck and thanks for sharing your dream!

Many dream experts believe that a flower dream’s meaning depends upon the type of flower in the dream. While there are extenuating circumstances where the type of flower carries a lot of weight, I believe that flower dreams can pretty much ALL be dealt with similarly, irregardless of the type of flower it is. Besides, a lot of people don’t know a Daffodil from a Lily!

Personally, I believe that the color of the flower or flowers is of greater significance, but we’ll get to those in a minute.

Like most things, flowers have a lot of different meanings to a lot of different people. They’re symbolic of everything from romance to funerals. We give/receive flowers when we’re in love, when someone is sick, when congratulations are in order, when someone has a baby, when someone has died, when someone has moved into a new home, and to celebrate special occasions such as Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.

Flowers essentially represent the following:

Beauty

Emotion

An attempt to make things better

Think about it, when we give flowers, we’re letting someone know that we care. We’re attempting to bring beauty into their lives with one of the most universal symbols of beauty: Flowers.

In dreams, if we are giving flowers to another person, it is symbolic of our desire to make something better for someone or to at least let them know we care. We may have done something that we’re seeking forgiveness for or we may simply want to show our love. Only the dreamer will know for certain when it comes to the motivation.

If we receive flowers in the dream, almost always the interpretation is the same: We are looking for love, concern, and for someone to acknowledge us in some way. Many people who feel under-appreciated and taken for granted will dream of receiving flowers.

If the flowers are flowers you associate with funerals or death (usually carnations or black flowers in dreams), the dream interpretation is that you are gravely concerned for someone’s health – possibly even your own. On the other hand, if they’re flowers you’d associate with a newborn baby (usually pink and/or pale blue), you have babies on the brain! Interestingly enough, this could even symbolize kittens or puppies. They’re babies, after all!

If the flowers in the dream indicate a wedding to you (Calla Lilies, white roses, baby’s breath…), the interpretation is that you are either, literally, thinking of a wedding, or you are contemplating a commitment of some sort.

The first things to ask yourself about the flowers in your dream are:

What do I associate these flowers with? (gardening, love, sickness, funerals, beauty, Valentine’s Day, weddings)

How did the flowers make me feel in the dream? (comforted, happy, sad, loved)

What colors do I remember most about the flowers? (pink, red, blue, black, white, yellow, purple…)

The answers to these questions will lead you to your own personal interpretation of your dream.

A few Dream Symbolisms from Flower Dreams:

Black flowers indicate depression, sadness, disappointment, and even death. Dreams are not prophetic, so don’t jump off the deep end when you read the word death! This simply indicates that death has been on your mind fairly recently – whether you’ve been thinking about your own life, someone who you are worried about, or someone you’ve already lost.

Blue flowers generally represent something soothing, but they can also be symbolic for a male.

Red can be symbolic of several emotions. The dreamer must look at how it’s used in the context of the dream (in other words, how did you FEEL in the dream when you saw the red flowers). Red usually symbolizes love, romance, and passion – but it can also represent anger and jealousy.

Pink usually means romance, flirtation, or girls. However, it can also be symbolic for breasts – breast health, breast cancer, and breasts in general!

Purple flowers stand for great success – royal success even. If you have purple flowers in your dream, you have success on your mind. You may have also recently achieved something that you feel very proud of.

Gold, Silver, and Bronze flowers symbolize celebrations. Whether it’s weddings, anniversaries, or other milestones, flowers in these colors mean that you’ve recently had something of great importance on your mind and/or in your life.

Yellow and/or orange flowers indicate pure joy, cheerfulness, and happiness. Generally when people dream of yellow or orange flowers, it indicates a clear conscience as well as a great mood.

White flowers usually represent honesty, purity, and love. However, they can also represent a desire to CLEAN something or even someone! White is a highly complex color when it comes to dreams, so you really have to rely on how you felt at the time of the dream.

Green is generally considered to be symbolic of jealousy or envy. If you dream of green flowers, you may have recently dealt with one of these common emotions.

What’s more, the dream interpretation can give the dreamer a lot of insight into their lives… and minds.

If you’ve had one of these dreams, the most important thing to do is to determine the condition of the garden, itself.

Here’s why: The garden is a symbol of our life, or more importantly, how we view our life.

If the garden in your dream is lush, beautiful, and causes you to feel at peace, content, and happy – it’s a sign that you are at peace with your life right now. The way the garden makes you feel in your dream mirrors your attitude toward your current life as well as the person you perceive yourself to be.

If, on the other hand, the garden in your dream “needs work” or “requires attention,” your subconscious mind could be trying to make a point – in a decidedly colorful way.

If the garden is in ruins, with dead/dried vegetation, weeds, and overgrown plants and leaves you feeling discouraged, angry, or even sad – your dream interpretation would be that there’s regret or disappointment somewhere in your life. Generally speaking, whatever emotion you feel in the dream is the emotion you feel about this REAL life situation. If you feel remorse or regret, you possibly have undealt with guilt in your life. If the situation causes you to feel angry, you obviously have an underlying anger that you haven’t fully dealt with.

If, in your dream, you feel angry at someone else for the state of the garden, as opposed to yourself, you are possibly harboring resentment and finding it difficult to forgive someone for something they’ve done or said (or failed to do or say, for that matter).

If the garden’s required work seems too much for you, it reflects a feeling of being overwhelmed in your life.

In the dream, if you find yourself simply observing everything that needs to be done… and then rolling up your sleeves to do the work, it’s a sign that you know there are things that you need to do in your daily life. If, in the dream, you don’t possess any negative feelings or emotions, it’s a sign that (deep down), you’re anxious to get started on the work you know needs to be done.

In fact, you may even be excited about the challenge!

I’ve had a few people recently ask me what it means to dream of being angry. One college freshman worded it this way, “I had a disturbing dream last night that I was a ticking time bomb. Not literally, but figuratively. Everything that happened in the dream made me mad and I exploded at just about everyone who spoke to me! That’s not like me in real life and I was just wondering what this dream means?”

A mother of two in Miami had a similar dream: “I had a dream about a week ago that I can’t forget. I yelled so much during the dream It’s a wonder my throat wasn’t sore after I woke up.”

Finally, someone who referred to themselves as “Dreamer in Alaska,” described their dreams like this: “I have had three dreams lately. Each time I am SO angry and SO mad at everyone. I don’t understand why. I cussed and even threw things in two of the dreams. I don’t cuss, so I thought that was odd. I also don’t throw things, so that was odd too. What do these dreams symbolize? I’m really curious and hope my angry dreams stop. They make me worry that I’m angry inside or something.”

Anger dreams are, pure and simple: They are a way of releasing anxiety, anger, disappointment… or, basically any negative emotions or feelings that the dreamer experiences in their day to day life. If these feelings are “repressed,” or not dealt with, the emotions sort of store up inside the individual.

Anger dreams are a way the subconscious mind tries to let the negativity out!

These dreams do not indicate that you are an angry person, at all, so don’t worry about that. They simply mean that you’ve encountered something negative, somewhere, and you’re mind continues to process your feelings while you sleep.

You could have contacted this negativity in a relationship, at school, at work, or even through a television show. Rest assured that these dreams will go away quickly – they seldom last beyond two dreams, three at the most.

Here’s a recently submitted dream for dream analysis:

I’ve been dreaming a lot lately about being lost. A few nights ago I dreamed I was in a town I used to live in but I didn’t recognize any of the restaurants or stores. I didn’t know which way to drive because nothing looked familiar. I knew it was the town but it just looked different. Last night I had a similar dream but I was in my aunt’s house. The rooms were different and each time I went through what I thought was the right door, it led to another room. I kept going in circles and just couldn’t get out. I’ve read where you say that you can tell a lot about the dream analysis by how you felt during the dream and after waking up. You’d think I would have been frustrated in these dreams and after waking up but I wasn’t. I enjoyed driving around and seeing new things in the first dream and was even laughing in the second one. I’m just wondering what’s behind these dreams! Thank you in advance. – Lara

Lara, I have actually had similar dreams at different times in my life. Ironically enough, the first dream you described is alarmingly close to a dream I once had. I dreamed that I was driving my daughters around a town that their father/my husband and I lived in when we first got married. Some things were the same but a lot was different. I had no idea where I was going! Like you, I didn’t feel frustrated, worried, or upset. In fact, in my dream, my daughters and I stopped and ate at an Arby’s (which the town didn’t even have!).

These types of dreams are simply your brain processing change or changes in your life. Given the fact that your emotions (during and after the dreams) were positive, I’d guess that these changes have been positive – or, at the very least, NOT terrible! My own dream came right after my family moved to a new home in a city. I was excited about the home as well as the city, so the emotions were all positive and upbeat.

Even when the changes in our lives are positive and desired, our brain still has to sort of wrap itself around everything and process what has happened. When everything else is, literally, turned off while we sleep, our brain seizes the opportunity to sort things out. When your own brain has finished processing the recent change or changes in your life, your lost dreams will, themselves, get lost.

I was recently asked, via the contact form, “What does it mean when you dream of having an operation?“ This type of dream actually depends on whether or not you have an upcoming doctor’s appointment or trip to the dentist. If you have an upcoming exam, procedure, or even a check-up, dreaming of an operation is simply a matter of your mind “acting out” anxieties you may have. It most definitely doesn’t indicate that anything is seriously wrong with you. You’re simply anxious about the appointment and/or procedure.

If you do not have an upcoming appointment, dreaming about an operation indicates something different, all together. Operation dreams (or even dreams of having your teeth pulled or your hair cut) indicate the subconscious desire to REMOVE something from your life or for someone (sometimes even yourself) to CUT something out! For example, many people who are struggling with overcoming a bad habit (overeating, smoking, etc.) or correcting an undesirable trait (bad temper, dishonesty…) will have operation dreams.

It’s their mind’s way of processing their desire to REMOVE something from their lives. And, yes, sometimes this something might be a specific person! If a relationship has gone very bad, you may dream of an operation, symbolizing your desire to remove either the trouble or the person from you life. Only the dreamer knows for sure which is the case.

If you dream of another person having an operation, you must be very careful about your dream interpretation. The dream analysis could go one of two ways:

The operation in the dream could symbolize something you want THEM to cut out of their life or remove from their personality/disposition.

The dream could indicate something in your own life – something that’s related to this particular individual in some way.

The dream could have nothing whatsoever to do with the person having the operation in your dream! It could be that they were on your mind recently and their appearance in the dream has nothing to do with the interpretation – the only thing that matters is the operation, itself.

When you think back to the dream, pay close attention to the emotions you remembered having in the dream. If your dream involved someone else having surgery, the more you focused on THEM in the dream, the more likely they have something to do with the interpretation. However, if the main focus of the dream was the operation, it’s likely that they were simply a “stand in.”

As with all dreams, only you can get to the real analysis. Think about the things in your life that you’d like to change. What thing(s) would you remove from your life if you had the power to do so? When you come up with an answer to this question, you’ll have the analysis of the dream.

If you dream of a mountain, your mind is actually “sorting out” a few things in your life. Mainly, these dreams are ways the brain sorts out:

obstacles

lofty tasks

very large challenges

Generally speaking, when we’re faced with what we perceive to be small obstacles or relatively easy tasks and challenges, we don’t have significant dreams about them. Our mind thinks, “No biggie. I can knock this out!” However, when the tasks or challenges are large and the obstacles seem all but insurmountable, the brain sort of “lashes out” in sleep. I think of it as the brain saying, “Seriously?! I have THIS to deal with?!”

Often, in our daily lives, we become so busy and goal-oriented that we don’t always realize just how intimidated or anxious we are when it comes to challenges. However, when our pace and our minds slow down, in sleep, the obstacles and challenges finally have a chance to catch up with us. It’s THEN that the brain can register just how largely they’re looming on the horizon.

Dream analysis is vital and crucial to real self-realization and self-growth. This type of dream is the perfect example why.

After dreaming of mountains, for example, an individual can take inventory of their life. The dreamer can sit down, with pen and paper, and write down things that could possibly be represented or symbolized by the mountains in their dream. Could it be something at work or school? Could it be a particular goal like wanting to lose weight, quit smoking, or learn a new language? Could the mountain symbolize a problematic relationship – one in which the dreamer doesn’t hold much hope for?

When the dreamer identifies the symbolization of the mountain, he or she can then write down ways in which they can proactively deal with obstacles and ways they can find their way to the finish line!

That’s the beauty of dreams, dream interpretation, and dream analysis. Most people just see the FUN side of dreams and finding out what dreams mean. And, make no mistake about it, it is fun! However, people need to realize that we can use our dreams to open new doors and find new paths to making our dreams come true – whether they’re financial dreams (finding a better job, making more money, starting your own business..), personal victories (losing weight, becoming more outgoing, overcoming bad habits…), relationship-related goals (finding your soul mate, improving your family relationships, improving your romantic relationships, communicating with your children or parents…), or any goal or dream you can think of!

Use your dreams to help you open a whole new world and possibly even a whole new you!

If you dream that you’ve suddenly gained or lost a great deal of weight, you are probably dealing with some sort of change in your life.

Some dream experts and interpreters believe that this type of dream is an indication that you are having trouble adjusting to or accepting this change but I don’t think this is a 100 percent hard and fast rule. Personally, I think the weight gain (or loss) is simply a dream symbol for change – whether or not you’re handling it well or not.

Take, for example, a woman from Massachusetts who dreamed that she had gained over 20 pounds. She wasn’t alarmed by the dream, whatsoever. In fact, it amused her greatly! She pointed out that the weight gain “took a good 20 years off” of her appearance.

When I told her that these types of dreams were usually symbolic of change she e-mailed me back, listing the following changes she’d gone through in the past 3 months:

She married “Mr. Right”

She and Mr. Right moved to a new town

Both of them started new jobs

They’d bought 2 Siamese cats

This uncommonly warm and friendly woman was very excited about her new life and family. She embraced all of the changes and was, in her words, “happier than anyone deserves to be.” Her dream was simply her brain’s way of reveling in her new found bliss and joy. Her brain realized that so much had been added to her world… hence the additions it made to her weight!

Dreams of Losing Weight

Dreams of losing weight aren’t always negative either. If, for example, an individual wants to lose weight, they may dream of doing so. It makes a great deal of sense, given the fact that they probably think about weight loss a lot during the day.

It’s extremely common and perfectly logical to dream about the things we think about the most.

However, if you have lost weight (in your dream) as a result of sickness or unhappiness – you are more likely than not struggling with recent change or changes. You feel that you are losing a part of your life – and maybe even yourself.

Whether you dream of losing weight or gaining weight, ask yourself the following question (and try to answer it as soon after the dream as possible): “How did I feel during the dream and how did I feel as soon as I awoke?”

If you felt alarmed, sad, worried, anxious, or scared in the dream – the dream symbolism is a negative one. This dream indicates that you are having a great deal of trouble with recent changes. You’ve probably been trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation, but you simply aren’t adjusting to the change. The dream indicates that you need to take a good, long, honest look at the changes in your life and ask what you can do to help yourself adjust better.

If you felt nonchalant, that is neither good nor bad – this indicates that the dream is simply acknowledging the changes. It’s not passing judgment on whether it finds the change to be good or bad, it’s simply acknowledging that it does exist!

If you felt happy, joyful, and excited in your dream (and felt good upon waking), it indicates that you embrace the change or changes and are in a very, very good place.

I hope that the last one is exactly where you find yourself!

Dreaming about dolls, in one way or another, symbolizes childhood. It could either be symbolic of the dreamer’s childhood or could symbolize a child (or “wanted” child) in the dreamer’s life. Many couples who are trying to have babies often dream about dolls. These dreams are simply the mind’s ways of handling the intense desire to have children.

Many people will dream about dolls when they have been thinking and/or talking about their childhood. The mind sort of goes back in time to “revisit” the magical time of childhood.

Dreaming of dolls can also symbolize children in your life -either your own children or other’s. If the doll is broken or lost, the dreamer is most likely quite worried about a particular child. If the doll is in perfect condition and (in the dream) brings about positive feelings, it’s simply the mind’s way of expressing love for a particular child (or children).

If – somehow – the doll is associated with negative feelings in the dream, the meaning could be altogether different. Many people will have negative dreams about dolls… even nightmares… when they have negative events in their daily life. Due to the fact that there is a doll present in the dream, these negative events either involve a child OR childishness.

Adults who are either dating or have married an individual with a child or children from another relationship sometimes feel jealous or “left out.” These unfortunate feelings can carry over into dreams and, quite often, star dolls or toys.

In yet another example of doll dreams, we often symbolize someone’s actions (or even our own!) through symbolism in our dreams. If we think someone is acting childish, we’ll find child-like symbols in our dreams – such as dolls. Even if we’re the one who has been acting childish!

Finally, I remember one particular dream where a woman dreamed that she had a doll that looked JUST like her. It turned out that she felt like her husband and children never listened to her. She felt as appreciated and acknowledged as a doll, basically – hence the dream.

I have gotten a lot of e-mails lately about knife dreams. It’s perfectly understandable why these dreams unsettle the dreamer. Many times the dreamer dreams of cutting themself – or, worse, they dream of cutting other people.

Knife dreams leave the dreamer wondering if they’re harboring rage, aggression, or anger.

I’m always happy to assure them that this isn’t the case. You see, knife dreams are what we call SYMBOLIC dreams. In dreams, knives are dream symbols for one or more of the following:

Wanting to remove something from your life

Wanting to remove something from someone else’s life

Wanting to give up a habit

Wanting someone else to give up a habit

Wanting to get someone out of your llife

Wanting to get someone out of someone else’s life

Knife dreams simply mean you want something or someone gone…. like yesterday!

Ironically, they do not imply that you are angry or aggressive – rather they imply that you allow things to go on around you without saying as much as you’d like to say. Very often, the most laid back, easy-going people in the world will dream about knives. I suppose it’s symbolic of wanting to “cut” things out the easy way!
