Dream Analysis for a Reader’s Very Unsettling Dream

Writing by Joi on Monday, 3 of December , 2007 at 10:04 am

Last night I had a dream that left me shaking. I have NEVER experienced this in
my life. It wasn’t a nightmare because I seemed to be victorious, however…
The dream starts out I am walking to me ‘rent-a-car” (I don’t know why I have
one) click the un-lock button, put my 2 yr. old son in his car seat, and begin
to walk around the car. I notice that another group of people enter the
driver’s side, so I lift my son out through the window. Chills run up and
down my spine, as though I know these are unsafe people. I put my son in the
car that was actually mine, and drive to the hotel we are staying in. I tell
the front desk to watch for this man and his companions. No sooner do I walk of
the front office, do I see this man… I try and fend him off, but I am not
scared of him. It becomes a battle of wits and inner strength. He begins to
follow me. More happens I do not recall. Eventually we end up in a room; he
thinks he has me cornered. I’ve dialed 911, and (I know he is a child molester)
and hope this time they arrest him. He smirks and lets me out of the room. I
realize that cornering me was a diversion, and there is a half naked baby
walking into the other room with a man. I grab that child and bring him to my
baby- who is safe. I spent the rest of the night re-living this dream. In no
instance was a child or I hurt, i in fact I was always one-step ahead, but there
was such a residual feeling of fear and revolution. Nothing I did would make me
stop this dream. I woke up for an hour, fell back asleep and the dream
continued. I know my mind was working something out, but what? And why did I
have to see my son almost molested? This is the first dream I have not been
able to deduce the symbolism. PLEASE HELP ME! There was more to it then this,
obviously, but hopefully this is enough to get some sort of help.

Any dream that involves our children is one we’ll remember for a very long time! If I had not read that your son was 2, I would have thought that he’d recently entered pre-school, Kindergarten, or Elementary School. This type of dream is very common for mothers when their child hits one of these “growing” landmarks.

However, since he’s still a baby (not that 4, 5, 6, and 7 year olds aren’t for that matter!), this type of dream may actually not even have anything to do with him.

Unless he has recently started staying with a new sitter or you’ve recently had to spend more time away from him than usual, the dream could be more about “mommy” than “son.”

Many times we’ll dream about situations that sort of “mirror” our daily life. If we have recently overcome something and won a personal victory, our dreams may take us anywhere from an awards ceremony to an olympic’s platform! If we feel overwhelmed and overworked, we’ll often dream of being hounded by “bad people” or of trying to run away from something that’s after us.

In your dream, saving the babies from harm, may very well signal that you “feel” or “felt” a fight coming on in your daily life. These types of dreams often occur when we know that trouble’s brewing, so to speak.

An example: A dreamer once had a dream where he had to pull his co-workers to safety when the office caught fire. The fire was being caused by a nut job who was shooting fire balls out of his gun. The dreamer saved everyone, then returned to the building to fight the flame thrower. He won when he turned the tables on him and burned the burner. As it turned out, the dreamer, in his daily life was sitting on knowledge of something his sister was doing that was wrong. She was only 17 at the time and was doing something that their parents wouldn’t have been very happy with. What’s worse, it was potentially harmful to her, so he knew he had to either confront her with it and/or tell the parents. The overwhelming dread of having to “fight” against something unpleasant caused his dream.

The fire even had a significant symbolism. A fire starts out small, then grows and grows until it’s out of control. This symbolized his knowledge that what his sister was doing could grow into something far more dangerous, destructive, and deadly - just like a fire.

In your case, the threat of molestation would seem to symbolize that you’re aware of someone “taking advantage” of another person or “abusing someone” who they have an upper hand against (either by size, rank, or position). It’s troubling you probably more than you realize - which is why it manifested itself in such a troubling, unsettling dream.

The thing to remember when you have dreams of this nature is that dreams aren’t prophetic - and that, more times than not, the people we dream about aren’t even directly connected to the analysis. Sometimes they’re merely “stand ins” for emotional connections.

Hopefully that’ll be the last dream you ever have of that nature!
