As you know, we invite our readers to submit their dreams for analysis (you can use the contact form at the end of this post if you have one you’d like analyzed). If the dreamers want the analysis to be personal - I’ll respond by e-mail and keep the dream off of the blog. All they have to do is include the word PERSONAL at the first of their response. Some dreams are just too personal to allow people access.
Of course, there are lots of dreamers who agree to share their dreams with others here on the blog - and I’ve heard from lots of readers who have been helped by reading about other dreamer’s answers.
Whether the dreams are to be shared or not- I’ve noticed a lot more dreamers are having nightmares lately. Several times a day I hear from people who are suffering from hideous, frightening nightmares. I really don’t know whether it has to do with Halloween approaching or increased violence on tv and in movies, or what - but not many people are having sweet dreams lately!
Everyone’s dreams mean different things, of course, but there are a few things that are true for everyone:
1. Dreams are not prophetic - they don’t tell the future…..they tell the past and they tell the present, but they DO NOT tell the future. They can’t, because we can’t. Even if you KEEP dreaming that someone you love has been in a car wreck, for example, it doesn’t mean they will be. On the rare times this has happened have been very unfortunate coincedences.
2. When we focus on really bad dreams, we only invite them to recur again and again. No matter how troubling they are, you HAVE to put the dream out of your mind. I always tell people who are suffering from recurring nightmares to watch a sitcom right before bedtime (Married With Children, Friends, Mad About You, Sanford & Son….. They’re all perfect.). This puts postitive vibes into your mind and sets a light, playful mood - nightmares want no part of that!
Just remember the easiest thing to do (replaying the dream over and over in your mind) is also the worst thing to do.
Put them out of your mind and kick them out of your bed!
