If you’d like to blog about this, then feel free, but I’d like a private
response too please. Part of it is reoccurring. In the dreams I normally have
about the ocean I’m on the beach or in the water when the mile high waves come.
But last night I was in our family’s cabin with a few other people (who I don’t
know, but I did in the dream) just hanging out. So I go out on the deck to check
out the storm thats coming. All of a sudden I see a waterspout and its moving
towards us. I run inside to tell everyone that we need to take shelter. So
somehow, just me and one of the other people run inside a closet that i didn’t
know was there and it opened up into a bigger room that no one knew about with a
window. It was too late to move to a safer room as the tornado was going right
past our cabin. Luckily it wasn’t very strong and it didn’t end up breaking the
window out. I made a mental note to not use this closet next time a tornado
comes. So everyone decides to leave because we see the waves coming. Not to take
any time to pack or grab anything, just leave. However I decide that theres no
reason to leave. I don’t want to leave all my stuff and I’ve been through this
before. The waves didn’t reach the house last time and it only flooded to half
way up the stairs. Plus if the water does come in I want to make sure all of my
clothes aren’t ruined. So they leave me and a dog, my dog I guess, and I brace
for the waves. The first comes and splashes a little bit on the windows (now,
mind you, our cabin, in real life and the dream, is on the second row, so I’m
dreaming some pretty huge waves here) but they keep getting bigger and bigger.
Pretty soon I’m pushing against the door to keep it closed. When the waves
become so strong that me holding the door closed by myself is no longer working
I have to get a chair and rig it up under the door knob and continue holding it
closed. All the while two stray dogs are outside barking to come in. I don’t
want to let them in, though, because they would hurt my dog and they’re just
plain big and mean looking. Don’t ask me how they didn’t get swept away by the
waves… So finally all the waves stop and I go outside to check on everything.
The deck has separated from the cabin and I have to pull it back. So my best
friend, Stacey comes to check on me and we’re just standing there in awe and
shock. And its still raining and storming. So I go in to pack everything when I
look back one last time to see what looks like hundreds or thousands of
waterspouts over the water and then i see that the waves have started up again.
I hardly get the door shut after Stacey gets inside, so some of the water gets
inside. And I wake up….
Your dream is a fascinating one - I can relate to dreams of the water, as I myself often dream of oceans, lakes, rivers, and rain. Dreaming of water in any form indicates that you are trying to “fix” something in particular. You may be like me - one of those people who wants to save the world!
I’ve found that in dreams, the larger the water (or the more of it that there is), the more you’re trying to do. And if the water has an urgency to it - like your dream or like a storm, the more important the situation is in real life. You feel UNDER PRESSURE about something in particular and it manifests itself in the dream. It could be something like a test in school, a new responsibility at work, a twist in a relationship, or it could even be as minor as getting a new haircut.
Remember that feeling UNDER PRESSURE about something isn’t always a bad thing - sometimes this is the very feeling we need to actually get things done and accomplished.
Watch your dreams in the future, you may find that water is your strongest dream symbol.
Thanks so much for sharing your dream!

My dreams are always weird and vivid. This one I want to know about though I had woke up crying from. I had died and was “living” in a kind of limbo and there were other people there. They were fighting a war with evil and they needed my help.
So I fought with them and we eventually won. Then it turns out that I wasn’t really supposed to die, they just needed my help that badly that they simply took me from living. In the time that they had me down there (it looked like underground or inside a cave) my mother had died. I told them that because they caused me hardship that they have to return both me and my mother to life.
They tried to return her and were failing. Eventually they said they would try a few more times but they didn’t think it was possible. I started to think about how she would have missed me when I died, how sad she would have been… then I had some flashbacks of mother daughter time which were of a couple creatures that look like loch ness monsters, one being a little baby saying “You can’t catch me momma!” and zooming off in a lake…
Basically it was the whole emotional overwhelming that seems to have made me start to cry. That my mother
would never again be able to hear that I loved her. And I woke up crying rather hard. My mother is still alive in real life and I show her at every opportunity I get to show her that I love her… So dreams like this are very disturbing.
Thanks!!
I can see why the dream troubled you! Rest assured, though, dreams don’t carry any more power than we allow them to.
I’ve read your dream several times - and even “slept on it.” You strike me as someone who is very close to their mother - she and you are both very lucky for that! I would be almost willing to bet that during the days before the dream you had heard about someone else losing their mother, or of someone who’s mom was very ill. It could have even been on television.
Your mind (maybe without you totally even realizing it) cast you and your mother in those roles - you realized the horror of how it’d be to lose your mother. I believe your subconcious mind then ran with the idea and played out just how horrendous it would be if anything happened to her.
Thankfully she’s just a phone call away from you and you can ring her up this very minute (or walk right up to her!) and say, “I was just thinking about you and wanted you to know that I love you.” As a mother, I can tell you that the words would mean more to her than a gazillion dollars - and they’d stay with her twice as long!
Props to you for being a good daughter (or son!), and thanks so much for sharing your dream - by doing so, you just may have made a lot of sons and daughters say some magical words to some very happy moms!

The most recent dream submitted for analysis was from a lady who was curious about the symbolism of mountains. She said that for about a week every dream she has features a mountain in one way or another. One time she was photographing a “colorful” mountain range, another time she was driving toward a very “beautiful” mountain, and once she was painting an “impressive” mountain on a wall. Other times they’ve been in the background of the dream’s scenes - not necessarily a part of the dream, just part of the scenery.
When I was reading the e-mail, I imagined that she must live in Colorado, Tennessee, western Kentucky, etc….someplace with mountains. I was pretty surprised when, in the last paragraph, she said she lived in Kansas (near Wichita) and had never even seen a mountain range in person!
That indicated that the mountains were a really strong symbolism for something. Usually mountains fall into one of three symbolic categories: Obstacle, Exaggeration, or Achievement. None of the dreams she detailed presented the mountains in her dreams to be problematic, so I ruled out Obstacle.
That left Exaggeration or Achievement. When I looked at her e-mail again, I noticed that she used many adjectives for the mountains - and , while they were all positive, they really didn’t dwell on the mountain’s size as much as they did how beautiful and majestic they were. I told her that I believed the mountains in the dream indicated a recent achievement - and that since she was the one painting the mountain on the wall and photographing the mountains, I felt certain that the achievement was of her own doing.
She e-mailed back almost immediately and said that in the week before the dreams began, she’d “snagged” a job that she’d been fighting “tooth and nail” for. Apparently she’d gone up against 4 men for a job that a female had never held before! After a series of tests and interviews, she was the last one standing. No wonder she’s dreaming big - she’s living big!
Big congrats!

Literal Dreams are pretty much what you’d expect them to be. They’re….well….literal.
Symbolic Dreams use symbolisms to get their point across - a kitten may indicate sweetness/softness, a shark may symbolize danger, a snake fear - etc. But Literal Dreams use real (literal) scenes and real (literal) characters. People who dream literal dreams usually understand what the dream is telling them, because everything is pretty much spelled out.
For example:
Darlene takes a pregnancy test and discovers that she’s pregnant. That evening she dreams that her doctor is warning her to quit smoking or she’ll do harm to the baby. It wouldn’t take a dreamologist to realize that her rational side is warning her of the implications of smoking.
A symbolic dream for this same situation would probably have symbolisms for the baby, the danger, and the decision as well!
To a very real extent, our dreams are reflective of the way we think while we’re awake. For example, those of us who are more creative and imaginative than we are rational and level-headed will tend to dream symbolic dreams. Those who are rational in their day to day thinking generally dream very straight forward, literal dreams.
There are, of course, exceptions - and many literal people have occasional symbolic dreams. And those of us with wildly “out there” imaginations have been known to have literal dreams. We just have them so rarely that we often don’t recognize them when they show up - we get so accustomed to the talking cats, truck-driving Basset Hounds, and walking trees. (All three withdrawn from my own dream bank!)
