Weird Dream with a Wild Twist

Writing by Joi on Saturday, 29 of April , 2006 at 10:18 pm

“Weird story…not quite sure what to make of it. Maybe you could help me figure it out. I had a dream that I had to go work one more shift at my old hospital. I was upset because it had been years since I was there and I wouldn’t know where anything was but I reluctently agreed. when I got there I was assigned to take care of this pt…I’ll call her Loretta…and in real life I had taken care of her many times. We weren’t close but I recalled her name. In the dream I was glad that I at least was going to take care of a patient I knew. So..I had to take her to radiology..I was pushing the stretcher through double doors and then found myself outside. There was grass, trees, beautiful sunshine and then I looked down and realized that I was still with Loretta but she was a HUGE snake…one of those huge boa constrictor snakes. She was very heavy and I

WOW….don’t know what to make of this!”

“WOW” is right!

One of the things about dreams that never fails to fascinate me is how far our subconscious mind will go to make sure we remember the details it wants us to. It’ll make things so graphic…so “weird”….that we can’t help but remember what happened. It’s been my experience, that the more important the message is for us, the more outrageous the dream will be - to make CERTAIN that we remember. That’s why, when someone tells me they can’t really recall a certain dream, I tell them not to worry about it, it apparently wasn’t that important.

I think that working in a hospital means that you have a great deal of medical knowledge and knew that Loretta would be nearing death. When your dreaming mind was “casting” players for the dream, Loretta fit the bill for someone at the end of their life.

At the other end of the life span, we have a precious little kitten.

The opposites (Loretta and the kitten) represent conflicting emotions of some nature. The snake actually represents the “struggle” you’re having with this particular conflict. It could be a conflict with someone else - something that you and another don’t see eye to eye on. Or it could be something in your own mind, something (or someone) you just can’t make your mind up about.

Oddly enough, many ancient dream guides believed that dreams about snakes foretold of good luck - usually financially. I hope that’s the case for you!

Thanks for sharing your cool dream,
Joi

A Mother’s Disturbing Dream

Writing by Joi on Wednesday, 26 of April , 2006 at 10:03 pm

“Hi There,

I had a disturbing dream that my son was detained in what appeared to be a Baliness jail. It appears he was travelling overseas with a small supply of drugs and had committed some sort of petty crime. There was an appeal put before the judge but it was overruled and was sentenced to death within 4 months. I felt that I was being blase in my dream about the situation as though I thought it wasn’t going to happen but when it actually happened and he had gone, I felt an enourmous amount of grief.

In my dream I collected his belongings in his cell which were quite artistic things that he had made and started walking through a large crowd of people. I noticed my mother through the crowd and screamed out to her. She could hear me but did not want to look at me, when she did she was crying and greiving over the loss of my son. Her look was as if she blamed me for my sons death it was at this moment that I too started to cry and woke up crying in my sleep with feelings of loss and greif.

Please tell me what this means?

Thank you.”

Hi! As a mother, I can fully understand the emotions tied into this powerful dream.

I’ve given your dream a great deal of thought - several days, actually! My first response was that it was a “guilt” dream….very, very, very common with parents. We tend to feel guilty for everything: bike wrecks, bee stings, Cs on a report card, cavities, etc.

But then I looked more closely at the dream - at the symbols and underlying meanings. While there may be a small element of guilt somewhere, I don’t think that’s the root of the dream.

First of all, your feeling of “being blase” - Sometimes, in our dreams, we’re actually pretty aware that we’re dreaming. So, we’ll feel detached, as though we’re watching a movie. The reason, of course, is that basically we are - it’s just a movie with meanings and insights.

Second of all, I believe the “connection” with your mother is more important than you might realize. The dream, at its heart, is about your son - no doubt about that. But your mom’s presence symbolizes a strong connection you share with her. Your emotions (in the dream), really came out when you saw her. Disappointing her is (or was) something you’d never intentionally do - in fact, I get the impression you’d rather disappoint yourself than her.

Third of all, your son. When all of the symbolisms are taken into consideration, I believe your subconscious had one thing “on its mind” (forgive the pun!): You’re concerned that your son isn’t living up to his full potential.. In at least one area of his life, he’s “settling” or “slacking off.” He is, in effect, creating a prison, of sorts, by not aiming higher or working harder. You realize this, even if he doesn’t - which could also explain why in the dream you weren’t terribly alarmed - you saw it coming! And you see it coming.

All good parents want more for their kids than they want for themselves. That’s made trickier by the fact that we’ve been where they are, and we know what we’re talking about. Frustration builds when we can’t make our kids realize that!

Good luck - I hope that the young man appreciates having a mom who cares so deeply. Thanks for sharing your dream - I know it helped other parents who have most likely had similar dreams.

Mary Shelley

Mary Shelley
On a rainy night in 1816, poet Lord Byron challenged his houseguests to write a horror story. That night, one of the houseguests, Mary Shelley, dreamed the basis for her infamous novel, Frankenstein.

Billy Joel
Singer/songwriter Billy Joel says he often dreams musical arrangements. He has even said, “I know all the music I’ve composed has come from a dream.”

Stephen King
The Super Sensational Scribe of Scary Stories admits that many of his tales are based upon his dreams. (Can you imagine what this man’s dreams must be like?!?!)

Paul McCartney
In 1965, at the age of 22, Paul McCartney dreamed the melody for “Yesterday.” When he awoke, he immediately sat down and played the tune on the piano.

If we pay enough attention to them, you never know what our dreams could lead to!

Submitted Dream and The Analysis

Writing by Joi on Tuesday, 18 of April , 2006 at 10:20 pm

My father is sleeping and then he wakes up and milk comes out of his mouth. I saw yellow bright lights in my house.

In a very unique way, your mind is focusing on something your father has said. It could have been to you or to someone else.

The bright lights indicate one of two things:

1. His words had a big impact on you. He caused you to see things in a whole new way and it has changed your outlook. The symbolism would be that of “a light going off” or of his words “shedding light on the subject.”

2. On the other hand, the interpretation could be that you are SEARCHING for the meaning or TRYING to understand your father’s words. In effect, you WANT the light to come on!

Only you know for certain which is accurate for your situation. The important thing is to give your father’s words some thought. You will know the words the dream refers to. Then, try your best to figure out why these words are so important to you.

Your subconcious mind wants badly for you to get in touch with these words and what they mean to you and your life.

Good luck and thanks so much for submitting the dream!

Solve Problems in Your Sleep!

Writing by Joi on Monday, 3 of April , 2006 at 7:53 am

First of all, I apologize for the lack of posts lately. My mom passed away last month, so needless to say, my mind and heart have been elsewhere!

However, I’ve learned that life does indeed continue, even after a crushing heartbreak and devastating loss. So, I’m back at work (even though my office is in my home, I hadn’t realy been here).

There are a few absolutely excellent articles you’ll want to check out - they’re linked below and I recommend them wholeheartedly. You’ll get a lot out of them.

I just noticed, it’s time to change my graphic at the top, isn’t it? The penguin was perfect when there was snow on the ground, but now that spring flowers have sprung, she’s kind of inappropriate!

Take care, and tell everyone you love that you love them muchly!
