Falling Dreams: From Bad to Worse

Writing by Joi on Friday, 17 of March , 2006 at 8:30 am

A recently submitted dream:

After this dream, I cried for 15 minutes, really really hard.

I was near an open field, when I heard a border collie dog howling, I looked up to see him falling from the sky, he was howling as he fell. I was really upset that the dog had fell as obviously he died, and I assumed it had fallen by accident from a plane. But then I looked up and saw another dog falling from the sky, a mallamute. He also fell to his death and I was devastated. I then realised these animals had fallen not by accident, but had been pushed out of a helicopter, that then flew overhead in front of me.

I tried to get the contact details of the pilot off the plane (as it was labeled as a company) so I could call the police, for help, anything to stop these acts, but then the pilot landed, and gave me a phone to call like he wanted me to call for help, he was looking for the attention to his cause.

My husband was there, and we were chatting to the pilot. Strange as it sounds, I found I felt sorry for his cause, and my husband and I actually found ourselves feeling sorry for him, and feeling that we liked him.

The pilot then went back to his terrible acts, but this time it was horses, and so many of them. They all fell from the sky, and they didn’t die all at once, some of them were still alive after the fall and trying to get up or walk. There were people everywhere trying to help the animals, but all I could do was lie on the ground and cry, I cried so hard that I woke up crying, and kept crying for sometime after as the images were so vivid and real to me. It was one of the worst dreams i’ve ever had.

That’s one horrible dream! It sounds like this was a lucid dream - very, very vivid and life-like, to a certain extent, of course.

When analyzing a dream, the best place to start is usually with the dream symbols. In this case, the symbols would be the plane, horses, dogs, and the act of falling. Each one has its own special meaning(s) in dreams. However, in this instance, I believe that the symbolization of the horses and the dogs goes together to illustrate one of the following:

  • From bad to worse.
  • From small to large.
  • From insignificant to significant.

That is to say that, I believe something in your life that is at least a little troublesome just went from Point A to Point B. And, using the symbolism of the dream - the move was “out of the blue.”

Falls often speak of emotions and feelings. This is backed up by the fact that you talked about your feelings within the dream. The fact that your husband was in the dream with you suggests that the real life situation affects him as well.

It would appear that something in your life that you feel strongly for or about just shifted, in some manner, from A to B. The dream manifested your feelings of helplessness and concern. You’re the sort of person who feels strongly and is protective of those you love. You’d do anything in the world to help those you love (indicated by the urgency to help in the dream), but sometimes you realize that things are simply out of your hands. It’s at this point you feel totally helpless - indicated by lying on the ground crying.

The fact that you were crying in the dream and woke up crying shows how emotionally attached you are to the situation - probably even more than you realize.

I hope your dreams take a big turn for the better!

Dreams of Voices from Beyond

Writing by Joi on Monday, 13 of March , 2006 at 9:38 am

A good friend of mine had a dream that really freaked him out. He was dreaming that he was sleeping when all of a sudden he awoke to hearing his name yelled. The voice that he heard was of his brother that had died about 5 years ago from alcoholism. However, the voice seemed to come from his cat which was sitting next to his bed. When he awoke the cat was by his bed. Any ideas?

I deal with dreams for hours each day, but that dream would freak even me out!

Last night, I fell asleep on the couch and found myself in the early stages of a dream. In my dream, my husband was speaking and I thought, “Why is he talking about that….” Then I woke up and realized that what Alton Brown was saying on the tv was coming out of my husband’s mouth! Something about Thai food and Peanut oil!

When we’re asleep, we are - up to a point - aware of our surroundings. Subconsciously, your friend knew that his cat was nearby. It either touched him or made a noise of some sort. His mind, which was essentially visiting with the brother, got caught between the sleep world and the awake world….sort of between the cat and the brother.

The dream could have been triggered by many things - your friend could have been thinking about his brother, he could have been around alcohol and started wondering what, if anything, could have been done for the brother before it was too late, or he could have even been concerned about his own health - hoping to never suffer the same fate.

If the latter were true, it would make perfect sense for him to hear his brother’s voice - sort of as a warning. I really, really hope your friend will take care of himself and not go down the same road. It’s the last thing his brother would want.

Thanks for sharing the dream - you’re an awesome friend and he’s lucky to have you!

Dreams of a Butcher and Puppies!

Writing by Joi on Saturday, 11 of March , 2006 at 12:05 am

Well I’ve never written to anyone but what is going on- I have this repeative dream-and its got me bugged!

I am no writer so bear with me: I am going to a butcher shop to purchase beef ribs for a gathering. The butcher tells me he has to go into the freezer to get another supply and I can come and pick out my choice. I am looking into the glass window of the freezer and I see not only the ribs but black and white puppies (half breathing) in a pile (probably about fifty) and a small motherly do with a blue harness staggering around the freezer. I asked the butcher what’s going on? He stated that he was putting the dogs to death and this was easier and cheaper. I asked him if I could have a little male puppy-before it died-he went into the freezer and came out with this little black and white puppy-he was cold and wet to the touch-I put him in my coat and left- And woke up.

Any ideas?

This is the type of dream that someone has when they are trying to do too many things and trying to take care of too many people at once. The dreamer’s mind is coping with their life, but a dream of this nature indicates that a little rest might be in order - as well as coming to terms with the fact that you just can’t please everyone all the time.

As for the specifics of the dream:

A butcher in dreams often symbolizes cutting something out of the dreamer’s life or removing something (or someone). It could have been something that recently happened, something that’s coming up, or something the dreamer is simply thinking about! Usually a dream will give us a clue as to whether or not this “removal” was for the best - but in this case, the “ending” was too tough to tell. After all, one puppy was spared, but others were left….so, there wasn’t a 100 percent happy OR sad ending!

So, whether or not the removal was a good thing (or will be a good thing) remains to be seen!

Good luck and thanks for sharing your dream!

Dreams of a School and Fighting Teachers!

Writing by Joi on Wednesday, 8 of March , 2006 at 11:48 pm

I’ve been having a lot of prophetic dreams lately .. but the last four dreams were quiet different .. Usually my prophetic dream is quite clear or I can easily intepret it , but this last 4 nights, I’ve been dreaming about my school. 1st and 2nd night, I was dreaming about my friends wanting my help. 3rd night, the teachers at my school were fighting. 4th night, it’s still about teacher. Somehow these dreams weren’t clear like it usually does, I don’t really remember how it went but I know it’s prophetic. Please help me.. I’m worried ..

Hi! Judging from the dreams you are having, there appears to be a little internal conflict going on in your life.

It really is fascinating the way the dreams all come together to paint the “picture” your unconscious mind wants you to see.

A few things are important in this sequence of dreams:

1. Any time a person dreams of fighting, a conflict is being spoken of, or symbolized. It could be a conflict between people, a conflict of ideas, or even a conflict within one individual - such as a conflict of hopes, plans, dreams, feelings, etc. Many times a young person who is deciding upon a college or a course of study will dream of fighting.

Basically, it symbolizes the concept of “working it all out.”

2. Dreaming of a school can have several different symbolisms: it can symbolize structure, self-improvement, discipline, order, education, and/or goals. In general, dreaming of a school speaks of bettering one’s self or one’s life.

[So far, your dreams indicate that your conflict has to do with something that will make your life better. You seem unsure of which direction to take.]

3. Teachers are symbolisms for discipline and control. The teachers fighting was your mind’s way if indicating your inner conflict. You are fighting - within yourself and possibly even with a few other obstacles.

4. The teachers were fighting in the 3rd dream, yet the 4th dream appears to be about one teacher. This indicates that your conflict will soon be resolved.

Best of luck to you and thanks for sharing your fascinating dreams!

Sleep Positions and Personality

Writing by Joi on Tuesday, 7 of March , 2006 at 8:34 am

Below is a link to a neat little article about sleep positions - specifically how they give clues to your personality. For example, if you sleep in the Log position (Lying on your side with both arms down by your side) - you are said to be easy going and social. Yiy kike being part of the in-crowd, and tend to trust strangers. However, you also may be gullible.

Give it a quick read-over and see how accurate it is for you. Oddly enough, I recognize two different sleep positions from my own sleep (though usually I curl up in the foetus)- because, basically, I just move and thrash around until I fall asleep. We’re shopping for a new bed (ours is just one step above sleeping on pavement), but until we settle on one, I’ll be flipping and flopping - then sleeping in whatever position I land in!

Sleep Position Gives Personality Clue

Thanks, Michael, for sending me the link!

Dreams of Dogs and Compromises

Writing by Joi on Thursday, 2 of March , 2006 at 9:04 pm

A dreamer wrote:

I LOVE dogs, so I was horrified when I dreamed that I walked into a stranger’s house to ask directions to a sushi restaurant and then found out that the two men were cooking their dogs and wanted me to eat them. It was awful and I’m worried that it may have a terrible meaning. Please help!

Okay, first of all, rest assured that there isn’t any terrible meaning behind the dream - though I can see how it would have you freaked out!

I think the dream is an admonition to watch out for something in particular that either is currently going on in your life, or could soon happen because the conditions are right. This “something in particular” is spelled out in the details of your dream.

You are being warned to not back down or compromise yourself for anyone, anywhere, at any time. Your subconscious used something very near and dear to your heart - dogs - to get your attention. Then, to really drive the point home - and to make certain you remembered your dream - your dream went in the direction it did with the…….ummm, menu.

Apparently, this warning is very important, because the dream is obviously one that stayed with you and has bothered you. With dreams, the more important the message, the more memorable the dream. You might want to remember that if you’re ever tempted to second-guess yourself or to throw your beliefs, wants, or preferences aside for someone else’s.

Be true to you!
Thanks for sharing your dream,
Joi
